After BCS playoff is finalized, ND will join the ACC

and the ACC tv contract will be redone for more $. Conference Champs will get the nod over at large teams in the new playoff format. That will put ND in a position to start looking to join a conference. Due to east coast exposure and acedemics ND will pick the ACC over the big10. ND already likes playing Pitt, Cuse, BC and others.

No ND will not join the ACC.

They couldn't raise the ACC's RPI high enough to make us able to place in a four team playoff even if an ACC team went undefeated.
You just can't bank on what might happen we need to take control of our destiny and disregard the 'what ifs.'

Who would they hop over into that spot?

PAC12 champ? nope SEC champ? nope Big10 champ? nope Big12 champ? nope C-USA champ? nope
The ACC champ probably wouldn't pass over the WAC champ.

A 1 lost ND team isn't going to make the playoffs, if they are in a conference they could. Trust me they want their footprint up and down the east coast not just in the midwest. They can take their brand from NY to Florida, and it helps them keep their national recruiting alive as well.

Had Va.Tech beat us last year in the championship game

they would have been ranked ahead of the B1G champ Wisconsin. Look it up. On ESPN the dates are wrong on the 2011 BCS rankings by a week. They would have represented the ACC in the national semifinals. They may or may not have lost to LSU. Alabama may or may not have beaten OK State. We'll never know. Instead, the SEC was left to beat itself.

Only if ACC teams start winning big games

If the ACC takes any more reputation hits, the monetary and geographic sway of the Big 10 will be too great to overcome. The fact is, we need a national champion from the ACC in the next 2 or 3 years before all of this shakes out. FSU, VT or us need to get it done. The other teams winning some OOC games would help too. Either we get ND and Uconn (or miracle shot at poaching PSU) or FSU/Clem pick up enough of a personal boost to get invites from the SEC or Big XII looking to get to the number 16.

With a play off system, how could they afford not to?

And if FSU and Miami leve for the Big 12 (as is being bantered around by radio sports shows,in print media and even FSU Board members),having ND won't mean a hill of beans.

ND will come to ACC over Big 10

Because they already recruit the Big Ten areas, but they badly need/want to get in to Florida to poach those athletes. They already play an ACC schedule anyway, last year they played Maryland, Pitt, BC and Wake. Honestly, their only bad loss last year was to USF. Outside of that they lost to FSU (questionable loss), Stanford and Southern Cal, both of which were very good teams.
This year they play Miami, Pitt, BC and Wake.

In BIG Country, it's been about moving to the BIG.
They came close in 99, and flirted with the idea just last year too.

I'm astonished at how many people on this board think ND would join the ACC.

They think ND is going to come in and majically save their precious ACC.
Why would ND add their worth to 17 mill/per year, that doesn't even hit that mark till later in the contract, when they can add their worth to 20-24 mill/per year in the Big10 or Big12?
