Is it because Freeman used the portal to fill key positions?
Is their culture just better than ours?
It just blows my mind that a "new" head coach is putting together a run like this and we lost to S.C.

Notre Dame is a Blue Blood Porgram whose defense is a lot better than ours. They have better defensive players in the back seven than Clemson and better defensive coaching. Their defense is also very experinced,A lot of good players who are playing their 5 and 6 years of CFB.

And yet the ACC is their door mat. The ACC is such idiots to let them use the conference like they did. They are also better because they have better players and much better coaches. My buddy and I were testing at the first of the game about why we couldn't get a player like PSU 44 and either of the OLs.

PSU, Texas, and OSU were in the final. Going beyond the lines, look positions like OLB, S, TE, etc. They are big and can move.

Throw XT in there too. All were replaced by slower players. Mafah played slower this year...
Losing Trotter and Collins represent a loss in size. And ND's OL seems to have gotten bigger.. Those dudes look huge.
So - anyway you want to slice it our size/speed has been off. I'm hopeful, though, with players having one more year in the program and with a few guys transferring in, the disparity that I see will begin to diminish.

We had a physical run game, and that’s primarily why we won. Physically dominated ND and shut them down.
We had a far better offense this year (52nd to 11th), and with a defense there’s no reason to think we couldn’t compete with ND.
Point being, all that stuff the dude listed in the OP was horse crap.

Do you mean just this season? We beat them when we played them last year. The wise usually don't equate a small sample size to what is their ultimate argument. You need additional data points for multiple years that actually connect the two programs, etc.

To answer your question.
They did not choose to play players who are hurt instead of capable backups who are healthy.
They used the portal to fill in positions of need instead of trying to play with one true DE (as one position example).
They did not hire a coordinator with zero coaching experience.
They did not turtle with a lead in the second half instead of keeping their foot on the gas.
The good news, even with these issues, we made the playoffs and won another conference championship. With a few tweaks, which it appears we are making, we are clearly on the road to recovery. Won't be easy as we have a ton of talent leaving after the 25 season so both the portal and recruiting at a high level this year will be critical.

They are fundamentally sound all over the team, especially on defense. They are tough through and through. They are consistent. They are reliable.They make the right plays at the right time on offense. Look at their third down conversion rate against Penn State. That was the difference.

They're just a well coached football team top to bottom. Transfers at key positions can be great, but also tough to start out until they start to gel, we saw that with them to start the season. But I think coaching/in-game coaching is the biggest dif.

coaching !!! we are better at QB, receivers, probably equally talented on Dline, LB. They are so well coached, and special teams have been good for them since kicker got back from injury. Their coaches have good adjustments and ours have no clue how to.

Notre Dame is long term proof that the real power in football is tradition. ND is a tiny school compared to even Clemson, but because of their tradition they have the 2nd largest fanbase in college football with 8.1 million Domers out there. That history is like a giant security blanket when it comes to recruiting and hiring. They've finished the season ranked 61 times out of the 89 years of AP polling and rank #5 in all time AP point rankings (Clemson is #17). Tradition man, the fans, the pomp, the pressure and expectation to succeed.. That is where it is at more than money.
Dabo is working to build tradition through putting commited players first and not always looking over the fence for greener grass. Rubbing the rock matters...tradition....that is the power.

Since 1981, Clemson is 6th in wins, while Notre Dame is 21st.
Since 2014 (CFP Era), Clemson is 2nd in wins, while Notre Dame is 6th.
So really, what does tradition have to do with it?
Sure, ND has more wins all-time, but they weren’t a military college until 1955 either. In all-time wins, ND is 5th. Clemson is 13th. Not too shabby and a really a strong, strong tradition.
So, tradition is nice to have, and we have it. Regardless, tradition isn’t what drove Notre Dame’s success this season.

1. Freeman is a good coach. He's not afraid to fire and hire the right people. At the end of last season ('23/'24) many people were accusing him of having "his guys" vs the best guys. He made some changes and those changes appear to work.
2. Great use of the portal. Getting Leonard and others in the portal has been a big boon for their team.
3. They can run the ball. This factor was 50% of the reason we couldn't cross the good-to-great chasm this year. ND has proven that they can run on just about anybody.
