already eliminated from the semifinals. I understand why they do this format, and in the context of the overall postseason it makes sense, but SEC teams doing so well in the post-season tends to belie any huge advantage that the pool format may have over double-elimination.

Leave it to the ACC to try to fix something that wasn't broken.
Like you, I understand why, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Had best tourney in the country in Greenville and Mike Martin and Carolina schools killed it over jealousy. If it was such a big advantage why didn’t we win more up there. I think it would be a huge success in Myrtle Beach (Now that flag is gone)

It was an unfair advantage for Clemson to play the tournament in Greenville (where the league benefitted from record ticket sales and attendance), but playing in Greensboro and Durham is not an unfair advantage for UNC, NC State, Wake and Duke?

If it is such a great format why aren’t they using it in basketball. This format is an embarrassment to the conference.

the SEC doesn't have true double elimination

it start as single, goes to double til 4 more teams are gone then back to single for the final 4 teams(2 of which would have no losses and 2 with 1 loss already). It's messed up also. As for a pool play goes. B12 was the first to adopt out of the P5 conferences. They scrapped ~2011 when their membership #s changed. I don't think there is a great way to do it. Maybe only 4 teams, double elimination would be good enough but imagine TV wants x number of games. 8 team double elimination can take too long.
To your point of about it being funny that the team that loses the first game being eliminated already from the semis, the same applies to all 4 SEC games today(single elimination)
