While I don't like to pass on rumors, one of my contacts has a source inside Georgia's athletic dept. According to him, the acc will get shuffled after the bcs championship. UNC to Sec is a done deal and UVA and Florida State are shopping around.

It's time for Clemson to start looking at other options. It's hurting our recruiting to be in such a bad football conference. When your conference affiliation becomes a weapon for other programs to use against you in recruiting, it's time to make a move. I hope we haven't waited until it's too late. Signing that $50 million buyout agreement was a huge mistake.

I must have missed something. Seems like the last two classes of recruits were highly ranked.
This class is looking pretty good as well and it aint over till the fat lady sings. It could be another highly ranked class. Jeez man!

Well, I am a coot. I'll pass this bit of free info to you all, which I passed on to Bashful Baron on November 28 in a Tmail. If BB reads this, he can verify. On one of the Carolina premium (pay) boards, we were emailed information on SEC conference expansion by one of the board's paid staff. What was unusual is that I cannot recall them ever providing info on conference expansion. Basically, we were told that the SEC is zeroing in on Virginia Tech. They want UNC to partner with VT. If they can't get UNC, they will take NC State. If NC State did not come, they would (and this shocked me) go after Miami because the Florida Gators (and I remember this quote verbatim)"are not as opposed to Miami as they are to Florida State".In the end, we were told that the expectation is that it would be VT and NC State coming in to the SEC.
So based on the information we got last month (which Bashful Baron can verify. And I don't think that any of you think Bashful Baron is a coot), Cutiger28 is probably on the money. I guess we will find out soon enough.
By the way, if you Tmail Bashful and ask him, I'm sure he will confirm that I provided this info to him last month.

Neilly, alias Coot, Va Tech is in decline currently and UNC is in serious trouble with academic problems as well as athletic problems in football. The head of the ACC is an UNC guy and no way they leave the ACC. Next up is NC State? You have got to be kidding me? The SEC does not need another UK or Vanderbilt in football because it will weaken the conference overall, except for basketball. Next, who is going to pay the $50 million exit fee for both schools? Do you think the ACC is going to yield to the SEC without a fight? Lastly, why is the SEC so afraid of adding the two teams(maybe 3 with Miami) that are now, and are going to continue to be the power of the ACC and that is Clemson and FSU? Is Florida afraid of FSU, and is USC afraid of Clemson? Wow, what a revelation that is!! The SEC afraid of two ACC teams!!! There is no question in my mind about USC blocking Clemson and Florida blocking FSU because of the potential recruiting problems, but I thought the SEC wanted to play the best teams, so why be afraid of Clemson and FSU? Incredible!

Hey, Merry Christmas to you, also, but Florida and USC of the SEC afraid of two ACC teams, Clemson and FSU? Wow, maybe the ACC needs to start raiding the SEC.
We would welcome Florida and USC because we are not afraid of them in recruiting, we go up against them all the time and all of us have done fairly well in that area!!

I don't believe rumors,or people who say that a contact has a source yaddah,yaddah,yaddah,but I would venture to say that my telling you without Duke going UNC goes nowhere.
Now you can choose which one of us you want to believe.

I will say that I am definitely not a coot. I want whatever situation is in the best interest of Clemson. While I am new to posting on Tigernet, I have followed the Tigers closely since going to school there in 98. As for the scenario with North Carolina, I also thought that it sounded strange, but do think it could make sense as the primary goal of conferences has been to increase revenue especially focusing on TV contracts. As a reader of posts, I am always interested to hear the rumors that people hear as sometimes they turn out to be true.
I cannot guarantee that North Carolina is going to the SEC nor can anyone guarantee any of this until deals are signed. I don't think they take Duke with them as Duke is really weak when it comes to overall earning power and TV appeal besides Bball.
I do personally think that the current conference alignment is unstable and changes will continue. As I believe we won't get into the SEC, I would like to see Clemson in the Big 12 with an Eastern division including Florida St., Virginia Tech, NC State, West Virginia, and Notre Dame.
Last thing I have to say is screw the Gamecocks. I want them to lose every game they play.
