Would you want to be a college football coach?

Head coach or coordinator?
I wouldn't.
For one, I wouldn't want everyone in the world knowing how much I made - including my kids and their friends! As they say, money changes everything!
If I have a bad day at work, that's between me, maybe some of my coworkers, and maybe my customer or vendor. It sucks, but no big deal. No nationally broadcast TV shows will be critiquing my performance and offering their unskilled and generally inexperienced opinions about me. And there are no cameras on me while I'm at my desk struggling with whatever that issue was!
I respect these guys - guys like WG, BV, and those that have left CU for HC jobs. What a gamble it always is - so many variables at play to make it work or fail. And so much pressure and expectations.
Yeah, I'm sure the money is great and helps take the edge off sometimes, but I think also that there are sometimes that it can't buy a hole deep enough to hide away in after a bad game, week, season, etc. I'd love $10 million/year. But for all the potential stress and public pressure and outside static - I'll take my little desk job!

My defenses in EA College Football 25 always rank in the top 10! As long as they let me call the games from my house with my Xbox!

It isn't that far away. Pretty soon we will have AI Bots as players, and we can all contribute to play calls and setting up offenses and defenses from the comfort of our own homes. They will calculate a consensus of responses from the information they receive, and input that data into plays and schemes.
Since we won't need human players anymore, we can get rid of NIL and the Portal will just become a fantasy draft.

Except for the "Hey, aren't you the guy that got fired from _________?" But I'd probably just move up to the mountains of New England, grow a long beard, and retire at a ripe young age! Take on a different name and become a hiking guide or something!

No but I'd love to have been a position coach.

I coached baseball for 10 years. I taught fundamentals from start to end of every practice. My catchers call signals and I only told a base runner to advance if he was young, inexperienced at reading a pitcher's leg movement or lack confidence.
I would love to have been a student of the details of a good WR coach like Dabo or any position on a football team. Imo, Dabo, like all top HCs, knows it all.
I never liked managing a game. I became a fan when the ump said 'Play Ball!' I had a blast cheering but didn't stand out like Swinney does. Parents and players loved me.

say or think doesn’t affect me, at all. If I’ve ascended to that level of success to land one of those jobs, I guarantee you I’m laser focused on getting better every day. And when you get the hook in the end…it’s just business, head high, go to the next gig.

This may be such a difficult time for college football coaches...many will chose to leave instead of putting up with manipulated children who should be getting a free education but instead just want MO money...NIL, portal, no rules...just rights, don't have a clue why they would stay...college football is not dead but has mutated into a beast that may become extinct! We helped create it now we can suffer while it dies!

Pay me 2 to 3 million a year and I can handle quite a bit of stress. That said...pay me 2-3 million a year and I'm only working about 5 more years.

15 years ago I would've said yes without question. I used to dream of being a college coach. But looking at the landscape of football now? No way would I want to touch that disaster. Back then it was simpler. You recruited who you wanted and just had to make sure everyone was getting coached up. Didn't have to worry about who wanted to make more money, players leaving/quitting on the team whenever they felt like it, having eyes on your every move, rules ever-changing at a rapid pace.

Nope… great money but too much stress for myself, and it doesn’t seem to offer a lot of time for family. It is your life.

There's no getting away from work for these coaches. Recruiting, the portal and NIL is 12 months with no break. How coaches can go past 10 years is pretty amazing.

take care of the retention part of things. I'd also need the official bag man to do a large part of recruiting after we identify who we really want or who we could take. They'd be the ones discussing amounts with the agents. I am sure that retention and recruitment are a bigtime pain. The main goal would have to be to focus almost all of my intellect on football and on player motivation.
So when I find the GM and the bagman, where can I fill out an application? Can I fill out online or does it have to be in person? I'll have to find a ride, if so.

Absolutely, I’d even forgo most of my salary to have them increase my buyout. Then retire early after I get fired for trying 75+ yard FGs on 2nd down twice in the same quarter and running nothing but all out punt block on defense
