Stick with me and just hear this out. From my memory, which isn’t as good as it once was, it seems like a lot of these mass shooters have purchased their guns legally. I wonder, for how many of them, was this their first legal gun purchase? This kid was only 18, so I am guessing in this case it may have been. I would like to see that statistic. Where I am going with this is, if this indeed is a high percentage, would it be a reasonable approach to do a more thorough background investigation into first time gun purchasers? Maybe a waiting period, a thorough check of their social media posts, mental health history, and anything else that might show red flags. Once a person has been vetted as thoroughly as possible on the first purchase, then subsequent purchases can be handled with the current background criteria. I am a conservative, gun owner and avid hunter. But I would be fine with something like this if it would help reduce these incidents. I also understand that people intent on doing bad things are going to find a way but I believe most reasonable, law abiding people would be ok with the inconvenience on their first time purchasing a gun if it helps stop this type of thing. Just a thought.

Oddly, in Texas at 18 they feel you’re not mature enough to purchase a beer. However, he could (and did) purchase 2 AK assault rifles?

control, ANY TYPE of gun control, people who ARE normally calm, reasonable people seem to morph into Mr. Hyde. They adopt Charleton Heston's mantra of "They can have my gun when they pry it from my cold, dead hand."
I know this from personal experience. I was making casual conversation with a couple long standing acquaintances, and the topic turned to gun control. I made the comment that I could not see any reason for normal people to own weapons classified as "assault rifles". You would have thought I slapped their baby. I was quickly informed that not only was I wrong, THEY in fact owned some.

Yea. I know it’s a subject people are passionate about. Like I said - I own several guns for personal protection and for hunting and have my CCP. I’m just trying to think of anything that might help prevent this and be reasonable enough to actually see it happen.
