A Clemson QB Thougjt Experiment

Let’s hypothesize that we could take either Deshaun or Trevor at their best and magically insert them into the 2024 roster against Georgia. What’s the likely outcome?
Conversely, let’s take Cade Klubnok at his best and insert him into the roster vs 2016 Alabama and 2018 Alabama? What’s the outcome?

Based on current demonstrated ability we would not have beat Bama on the game winning drive and toss to Renfrow in 2016. Maybe no change in 2018 due to the defense and going to a game managing offense.
DW would give the Pups a fit with our current team. I would feel very good about a Dub for that game.

QB is the most important position on the field, and arguably the most important in all sports.

I think I take Deshaun here. Big opening Win vs Auburn really t'd up the natty run.
Then again, Deshaun didn't have as much success winning in the state of GA - I guess some of that was prob Cole Stoudt's fault.

I am not nearly as optimistic. I don’t see us winning this game even with Deshaun or Trevor , because we were clearly better at skill positions and much more consistent on the O Line.

Ours receivers this year should be better than 2015 and Mafah is definitely an upgrade.

I think Cade and 2016WR group beats TLaw with the 2023WR group. 2024 WR group TBD...

I'm gonna disagree with people here. Our wide receivers this year are much better than people give them credit for. They got open a ton last year. Cade just didn't see them or he hesitated and the opening shrunk. I don't think they're quite as good as the group from 2013-2019, but they are good enough with a QB who can see them. Now, the big question for me is our offensive line. Will they be at least average? Or will they continue to be among the worst offensive lines in all of the P5? Assuming they have improved to be at least average, here are my thoughts.
Deshaun beats UGA this year. I see no sign that this UGA team, while elite, will be as good as 2022. I think our wide receivers will have chances to get open. Deshaun wasn't afraid to just rip it in there, and I think we would have success moving the ball down the field. Combine that with Mafah as a switchup, and our defense will be well-rested and it should be a competitive, low-scoring game where we come out on top.
I think it depends on which Trevor we saw. Freshman Trevor or the Trevor vs. 2019 Ohio State beats UGA, for very similar reasons as Deshaun. But Trevor sometimes struggled under the pressure of big games and his decision-making dropped (something that still happens in the pros). I think UGA beats Trevor if they got to him early a few times and he played more like he did against 2020 Ohio State or LSU.

Oh, and based on what we've seen already, I would bet very strongly that Cade would have lost to 2016 Bama. Only Deshaun could have won that game. I think 2018 was close, but he probably loses there too.
