Garrett wants to be a head coach

I think that's obvious. And he may be at Clemson only a couple of years. But I think it would be in his best interest to remain at Clemson longer...at least five years. He can learn a lot from Dabo. And I think that may be a huge reason he came to Clemson...to learn from the master.

He's a young dude that just left a championship team in Texas; you really think his long-term plan is to retire in Clemson? I'm excited about this hire but we'd be lucky to keep him three years.

As long as the reason he leaves is for a HC job, it's a win

win for everyone. If he moves laterally it's probably because the offense has underperformed or he's just a bad fit. If he get's fired then we've had a horrible couple seasons.

Here's to hoping he leaves for a HC job in 3 years!

thats true of any quality hire Without the fire and drive to rise to the top they will never succeed

I'd have reservations about any assistant coach...

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I’m fine w/a guy knowing his strengths/ staying in his lane

Ambition is fine, but sometimes doing what you do best and being satisfied is a real positive trait.

Schools still out, but my gut tells me that Brent Venables might be a prime example. And let’s not ignore the Chad Morris saga.

Southeast. We can hope this is where he and his wife want raise their boys. That said, barring something BIG coming up,they didn't move for less than 2 years. I'd be shocked and elated if it's over 4

It does speak well of Dabo that a guy that everybody wanted, and who wants to be a head coach, ultimately decided to come here and work with him. I'm sure he had discussions with Lincoln about his different options and here he is so that says something.

If we only get 2-3 years of Riley before he becomes a HC, that is awesome. Because that would mean he was successful in leading our offense.

Venables' tenure was a rarity and can't be expected from anyone. He enjoyed coaching his sons until an offer he couldn't refuse came his way.

I think most upcoming coaches has a desire to be a head coach some day. I’d rather see us get one like Riley any day even if it’s only 2-3 years. Heck Bama replaces them every other year it seems

Saban rotates through coordinators every few years.

It will be okay.

We got the best guy for the job and we will have him for 2 - 3 years
