Which 5 star 2022 recruits would you prefer we offer this week? They are gone. Most of the regular posters on this board understand where we are in the process and this time of year you offer lower rated “project” players. These are very much “ guys that can come in and work hard and contribute at some point along the way.” Nothing has changed from what DHood said a few weeks ago and no one that I have seen here has appointed these guys All American status….yet. These are the guys that have to come in and earn it. And we’ve seen a few do that so yes, it is still possible for them.

This was not plan A for our recruiting. We had staff leave galore which effected our recruiting greatly. Point is compared to where we were 2-3 weeks ago we are in a much better position. You’re not going to “shock the world” and go cherry pick all the 4 and 5 stars you want in that amount of time. But we do have some solid recruits there and some that could pay off later. Yes some may not. Anyone who tries to paint this as ideal is mistaken. Anyone who tries to argue that we aren’t better off now than a few weeks ago is also mistaken.

I am not sure why there is so much push back in the apparent contradiction in the articles. Maybe Mr Hood did not mean for it to come across as a "puff piece" but that was largely how it came across judging from the comments on the article's thread.
We do appear to be doing well, or at least as well as was possible for the final push. We stand to get two 4* that were committed to other teams but opened their recruiting back up after coaching changes. The other guys are filler pieces and a lot of people are making them out to be our first choices rather than recruits that we are settling on. However, they are some of the better recruits left out there which is all that we can hope for at this time.

I have never seen anything wrong with grabbing a few project 3 star recruits that had been over looked, and our coaches seen something there that could be worked through with time at practice or on the practice squad, but with all the 3 star offers being handed out isn't a way to fight the transfer portal bc, the 3 star guys that do get good enough to be a 2 deep player, and they hit the portal, other coaches will see how they've done at Clemson, and they will grab them up. The lets just coach them up until they can be used as reliable depth will get defeated in through the portal.
IMO, recruit the best players they can get, and the ones that slip through the portal will be just fine bc we would have a roster loaded with great players. At some time, the NCAA will have to put restrictions on the portal bc there will be more players in the portal than what's coming out of HS. They can't have it both ways, coaches will either recruit from the portal with players they have seen at the college level, or just recruit only high 4-5 star recruits from the HS level. The NCAA made a huge screw up for HS players wanting a chance to play at a big time college bc, they will have to be high 4-5 star players before a big time college will ever look at their tape!!!!
