Got my first car in 1963. Since then have owned many, many. The best one may have been the 1995 Nissan truck. The most collectable was a 1954 Corvette. The most fun one was a VW Beatle.

I really like the first few years of the Mustangs. The only one that I had owned was a 1966 2+2 Fast Back with the 289 HP, with a 4 speed Trans and it had the rally pack on the Steering Colum.
I loved that car, and it got stole out of my yard while I was asleep in bed. The insurance company would only pay me what the book price was, and it was probably worth 10-15 times that much.
For those who may not know like myself at the time, when you insure old cars, trucks or motor cycles, you better tell the insurance company that you want an Antique policy, if you don't and it's totaled beyond repair or stolen like mine was, they will only pay you book price for it....

Bought it straight off the lot. Took just about every dime I made to keep up the payments and insurance, with a little left over for gas. Not much for dating. The strongest car I've ever owned. The next year Ford went to those crappy Mustang IIs.

My sister had a Mach1. I was only about 9 or 10 years old, but I can remember it being metallic blue. It sat so low, I felt like I was sitting on the road when riding in it.

Had a 1965 Rambler station wagon. Back seat laid down for certain situations like sliding a paddle boat in for fishing and for other situations that were similar to fishing. Would have gone to Woodstock but I didn't think that Rambler would make it. Would do 70 mph top end.

I had an uncle that believed the only car in the world was a Studebaker. Drove them for years. When they went under, he went to the Rambler. 70MPH may have been top end, but I don't think he ever drove his more than 40MPH, and that was if he was in a hurry.

I had side pipes mounted on mine, and if you weren't careful when you got out, you could get a nasty burn on your leg, especially if you were wearing shorts.

Most people that are into street drag racing, and the strip, they like the Fox Body Mustangs bc of the frame, but most that use them for drag racing, they will put Chevy engines and transmissions in them....

The Mach 1 that had the 351 Clevland Engines, they run pretty strong, but the ones that had that 351 Windsor Engine, they were a turd about like the 305 engine that Chevy had at one time they put in most of the Camaro's unless it was the SS Camaro or the IROC.

I don't know a lot about the Windsor, but I understand it was a pretty reliable. Mine didn't have a huge top end, but it got you through a quarter mile in a hurry, which was pretty cool for a car right off the lot. Every one around here worshiped the Chevy 396, but they couldn't have been a lot stronger than Fords Boss and Cobra engines. One of the scariest rides I ever took, in my life was in a 69 GT, (I believe), with a 427 Cobra engine, and an idiot behind the wheel. Think John Candy and Steve Martin driving down the interstate on the wrong side of the road, and thats pretty much the way we looked. I was the skeleton, and my buddy was the devil.
That 289 engine, could be a hoss too. A young man, that worked at a local dealership had a 66, and he and one of the mechanics spent hours under the hood. They tell me he would race that 289 against 396, and 454 Chevelles, and vettes, and cut them. After I left for boot camp, the young boy wrecked the car and lost his life. I guess it was a case of too much alcohol and too much car.

In chromoological order:
1953 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon
1955 Chevy 210 2 door post ($$$)
1966 Mercury Comet Caliente 4 door
1964 1/2 Mustang Fastback 2 + 2 ($$$)
1964 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon (The BEAST!)
1966 Pontiac Tempest Coupe ($$)
1968 English Ford Cortina two door ($)
1977 Camaro ($)
1960 Ford Thunderbird ($$$)
1981 Ford Fairmont 4 door (Throwaway car #1)
1986 El Camino Choo Choo Custom ($$)
1988 Mazda 929 (Overall best car I ever owned, hands down)
1999 Buick Le Sabre 4 door (Throwaway car #2)
1994 Chevy Suburban
1995 Olds Cutlass Ciera (Throwaway car #3, WORST car I ever owned, probable tie with Throwaway #1)
1965 Buick Riviera ($$$)
1979 GMC Caballero (El Camino Royal Knight Clone) ($) Still own it, parked.
2007 Chevy Avalanche, my main driver, still own it, still love it, except when I have to fill with gas.
2007 Honda Odyssey, was a great vehicle for my wife, had nearly 200,000 miles on it when traded.
2011 Ford Focus, worst BRAND NEW car I ever owned. Got rid of it with only 18,000 miles on it.
2014 Honda CRV, very dependable wife vehicle, but sounded like a farm tractor.
2020 GMC Acadia Denali, current wife vehicle, so many electronic bells and whistles, I STILL haven't learned them all. 310 hp that could get away from you if you ain't holding onto the wheel when you hit the go pedal. I know it feels like a rocket ship to her after driving that underpowered CRV!

I miss my ‘70 Nova. I called her “Yellow Betty”. I don’t miss the radio and heater that didn’t work or the crack under the windshield that provided free AC!
And in spite of running for years on Gerald’s Recaps she got me around Chucktown and many many trips up and down I-26!
Go Betty! And Go Tigers!

drove it across country in 72. Picked up a couple of native americans outside of Albuqueque for a couple of days. Went to LA for a few days and drove up Hwy 1 and giving hippie chicks a ride toward San Franisco. When I headed back to SC, I picked up a hippie who had was carrying a lot of weed. He smoked in the car (which meant I was second hand smoke victim). Spent one night camping out over Salt Lake City and then headed through many flat miles of wheat fields and silos. Next car was a Fiat Spyder 850 convertible. Terrible car but fun to drive. Then, a 78 cadillac, a Honda, a Nissan Maxima, a big Ford sedan, an Intrepid (a great car), a Chrysler 300, a Honda CRV, a mini Cooper, a Lexus RX, a BMW X5, a Bmw 528i sedan, and now a BMW X3. Also owned a Morris Minor Tourer, 1959 for fun for 17 years.
All of them were depreciating assets.

My first Ranger was my all time favorite vehicle. It was my dads and he gave it to me when I graduated high school. It was the cheapest new Ranger he could find. No radio, vinyl bench seat. No headliner - just a metal roof. My dad bought a generic radio and speakers to have something to listen to. I ended up putting wheels and tires, dual exhaust, and a cd player with some 10s behind the seat. I got rid of the bench seat and bought some explorer seats from a junk yard. I figured they would just bolt in. They didnt. I rode around for about a month with my seats just sitting in the car. One day my buddy and I bought some long bolts and cut some pieces of wood to match the floor so we could bolt in the seats. Man, I was stupid.

Learned to drive near age 12 with a 1938 Chevy 2 door sedan floor mounted 3 speed and a '48 motor. Had to use it for the test to get a limited SC permit at 14 in 1961. Shortly after Dad upgraded to a '49 Hudson Commodore used to drive to school in the 9th grade taking turns with a classmate who lived nearby and had a '51 Studebaker. In high school drove '53 Chevy autotrans, '56 Chevy 210 manual, and 59 Ford Galaxy with a T-bird engine. My first car which I used to commute to NGJC was a '63 Impala 283. Later owned: '69 Fury 318 '74 Ford Baby blue Pinto Wagon 4 speed. Caught fire on the bridge at the Roper Mtn exit during rush hour after picking it up from a repair shop on Congaree Rd. '79 Buick Regal v6 Dodge Spirit V6 used commuting to work in downtown Chlt After retirement candyapple red '08 Mustang V6 pony package. Current fleet: '93 red Chevy S10 v6 pickup with 86,300 miles '17 candyapple red Camero RS v6 '23 mars orange (looks red) KIA Seltos

My first was a 1972 Chevy Vega...army green...with an aluminum block. Ten gallons of gas and one quart of oil at each fill up. It sounded like a motorboat. Everyone in the neighborhood knew what time I came home.
It had a huge add-on AC that hung under the dashboard of the passenger side. But if you ran it more than five minutes the engine would run hot.
Got it in 1976. $435.

My first car was a 1960 Chevy Impala 2-door, Cherry red with white hard top which I bought with my summer job money after my freshman year at Clemson. Rats could not have cars back then. Paid $500 for it. The other day I saw one exactly like it online that had been re-done for $48,000. Good Lord have mercy!
