All looking up at me. I don't do snakes. Beware before u stick your hand in. These were all harmless, but they will not be back in my pool. I think they all might have been kin, but they all together wherever nasty snakes go

Water temp was 68. River cold, but good for our old bones. I was just cleaning up and I was like, good gracious... We get the same kind every year, but not this many at once. They were each about 10" long. I think they were Garter Snakes? Grey with black speckles

The first thing I do is check the skimmer basket and the pool before I go in since I found a hog nose snake in mine, but it wouldn't have been anymore of a scare if it had been python!!!

I've already seen 2 rat snakes, one in the barn and one crossing the driveway between the pasture and the woods. I hope they gobble up a few mice before I have to kill one. Once they go after my hens/eggs, they be gone.
My problem with removing the skimmer cover has been black widows tucked away in the cover crevices. After seeing (and killing) the first one, no fingers to pull the cover off here. I'll see if the coat hanger is better than the screw driver.

I saw a documentary on black widows. Once we moved plumbing indoors, we suffered fewer bites especially on the make body parts. What?!

I'm pretty sure the male part is for mating too.

Always just reached in the skimmer without a care until recently when I saw my 1st snake about the size of those. But lately a lot of big spiders have been in there- dk how they can even be under water and still be alive but I am more attentive now

I had one in my skimmer basket once right after I had my pool put in, and I haven't grabbed it with my hands ever again. I have a drapery hanger that I put a hook in it, and that's what I remove my skimmer basket with, one snake was way more than enough for me bc I don't do snakes either. I don't do very big fishing worms either!!!

We have our first pool and I’ve been scooping out the skimmer bare handed. I’ve seen several big jumping spiders, a few beetle grubs and a dead blue-tailed skink. I’m not really scared of snakes, but grabbing a snake outa the skimmer would likely require a change of drawers.

I still reach with my hands quickly. Y’all are making me rethink this technique. I don’t like spiders and snakes!

Be careful! One of the gals in the football office at Clemson Athletics was working in her yard last spring and reached down to clean out a drain and got nailed by a copperhead on her arm. She had an awful time for a few weeks. They will bite anything that moves close to them this time of year as they reemerge from Winter.

No swim parties at your house without a serious serpent search beforehand.
