Lounge Wreckormendations

Buying the family a Christmas gift this year.
Most stupid purchase I can make, a tent. Which means it will be up to me to set the #### thing up myself, gather all of the wood for the fire, sleep on the ground with 2 kids and a wife whom all snore. While they complain that they are cold the entire time.
So yeah I'm an idiot. But what tent do you recommend? Want a ton of room. Would be nice to have separate sleeping areas for when the kids get bigger and daddy wants to put his pants tent in mom. And waterproof

Probably shouldn't have replied "That means they'll get the kids first and give us a chance to get away"

You ain't gonna use that thing more than a few times. Ever.
Why? Because the kids will get older, the novelty will wear off, the weather will be bad when you plan to go, etc.
Tents are like RVs. Great fun, but seldom used by most people who buy them.
So go with the Wally World special and enjoy the few times you actually use it.

I saw tents on there this morning but I was not shopping for one.
We have a Ozark Trail one that is giant. Used twice, in the den. What a waste of money.

buy some cots too so you don't have to be on the ground. Cabelas sells ones for two folks and some that are bunk-beds.

I don't think he's dragging a 6 bedroom 2.5 bath tent up a mountain, so this is truck camping with access to 9V electricity and a pump.

When I hear them I get the feeling the price is still going to be bad.
I mean, Don Munson has the best job on Clemson's campus and still had to save up for 30 years to get one.

When we bought our camper, it came with a crap 4 inch mattress. The first night i slept in it, my shoulder went to sleep and I woke up numb on my left side.
I called Jay (I knew of him through other friends) and my wife and I went over to his shop. Back then it was on Perimeter road at Donaldson. Wife and I were joking around and I told her that we were gonna have to do the 9 1/2 weeks scene to test them out. ha ha. So we got talking to Jay and wife said she wanted Soft mattress and I said I like a firmer mattress. Well, we were going back and forth and Jay asked what side I sleep on. I said left. He said come back in 3 hours and he would have it ready. We ordered a short queen to fit in camper.
I brought the camper over the next day to put the mattress in it. There was a tag on the left side that said firm and the right side said soft. He had made the mattress half and half.
About six months later my wife tells me that she is calling him to order one for the house, half firm and half soft. Mind you we had JUST bought an EXPENSIVE mattress about 5 years earlier.
That was 4 years ago.
I have had at least 10 people from work go to them as well. All are very pleased with their purchases.

Also, Long May They Run is a GREAT Phish podcast. Season 1 is finished and they are great. Going to do another band for season 2, hopefully someone just as interesting.

I can put it up by myself in maybe 10 minutes, ALTHOUGH to put the rain fly on (easily) it takes a helper. (Woman in the video is an amazon woman, at least 6'2"). Torrential rainstorm in it once, and no leaks.
Best part is you can stand up in it. It's huge. Sleeps 5 easily. Has a door on it too that works like a real door, which is noice.

As for your complaining, at least you have a wife who will sleep in it.

You don't want my advise on tents.
Dec 12, 2019, 1:00 PM
|
|
I use to build one regularly but they never stayed up over half a hour with my ex. She had a special way of collapsing my tent. Then I got old and I only built a tent twice or three times a week.
Now I'm rilly old and it's once a week but they seem to stay up a lot longer without the ex.
I'd just buy a big van and remove all the seats behind the driver's row.
