Matt Luke is going to have to kick some serious tale on the recruiting trail for next class if we want to make up for the 2024 OL class.
Some are going to give me some stats or point out something specific or special about some of these guys but reality is on average ratings do matter and who offers matters even more. We offered a lot of different guys before we landed on who we got. We need to recognize that these are not the players the coaches wanted. They are who they were left with.
I do think Matt will be a game changer and bring in some solid players.

Haha okay. So one late 3/4* player is a game changer and makes this OL class elite or even good? Reality is we just got a OL from Duke that no one else wanted but Duke and an OL from Danial HS that no one else wanted except for FCS and group of 5 schools. Those types of players are why our OL have been bad the least few years. Go look at GA class and tell me this class can compete on the OL.
It ain’t like I’m talking about our entire class I’m just talking about the OL. It is a bottom of the barrel OL class and whoever tries to argue otherwise is delusional.
Go ahead and show me how our OL class is better than the majority of the top 25 teams in CFB for 2024.

A lot of these guys are late developers. May not be 5* guys ready to start or NFL bound, but there is some potential there.

Totally not the point. I can find dozens of 2-3* players that turned into NFL players. The point is on “Average” ratings matter.
I don’t even care as much about the ratings when our coaches identify players early and make the offer and we land a 3*. That typically means they saw something others haven’t. Then that player typically rises in ratings by signing day. See our 2025 QB for example.
The point is we had to make these offer last minute because we either are down two scholarships or we at least fill them with lower rated players and hope they develop. So yeah we have to hope we got a couple steels and develop them.

What we don't know is who the coaches are watching and have in place to offer if one of our 1st choices does not accept. As you know we make a lot less offers than other schools because they are real acceptable offers. So some of these guys quite possibly were on our radar and at other schools would have been included in offers where we wait and see before we make the offer.

Ot the previous oline coach couldn't get these guys to even look at Clemson? You don't know who the staff wanted. Tons of big time schools wanted Wade and Clemson offered and he committed quickly.

You need to realize how few players we offer. Clemson offered 20 offensive line recruits Tennessee 61 Texas A&M 41 Alabama 29 Florida State 54 Miami 59
I could keep going, but I think this gets my point across. Clemson is very selective.

And even though we are selective we stuck out of the select few we initially went after. Now to be fair Matt wasn’t here, that was TA. I do blame him for the poor recruitment this class. That’s one reason he was let go I feel.

I don't know what to think about Thurmon.
I think Watson Young will bust his ### and be a very good Center for us.
Do you not like Ronan O'Connell?
Mason Wade will end up being one of the top players from this class. He had a good offer list and because he wanted to go to Duke, he was automatically slapped with a 3-star rating. When all is said and done he will be a better college player than Blake Franks.

The point is if you want to get to have a solid OL year in and year out you have to recruit top 250 players year in and year out.
Again it’s not Matt’s fault. He’s just got to improve the room.

Some of y’all seem to insinuate we aren’t going to be fans of or not cheer for the players in this class. That’s not what is being said. They are tigers and we all have to hope they we lucked up and got some steels in this 2024 OL haul.
But a “Steal” is exactly what they would be. None of the OL we got are top 250 players nationally. So “On Paper” this is not a good class and these players are “NOT” who the coaches wanted 1st or even 2nd. These are 3rd and 4th choices after striking out in the 2024 class and the portal.

Ha we are fans. We aren’t coaches. All we do is cheer and discuss all things Clemson Football. I think it’s a poor class on paper and if you rate our class against the rest it’s poor.
Agree it’s not played on paper and we possibly may have got a couple steels. Only time will tell. But I’m sticking to what I said.

We have seen plenty of 4* linemen on Clemson's roster who have not played until the junior or senior year and plenty of 3* guys who were great linemen early on at Clemson. Perhaps instead of prejudging these four young men to be something less than good, we wait a year or two so we actually have some basis for analysis. Young men who chose Clemson deserve the benefit of the doubt as a minimum.

That’s why many we recruited didn’t come. They like the odds of walking in and starting right away.

Sure. Dabo and his staff honor their commitments. When we're late in the cycle like this and have a standing offer for someone still out there, they are committed to honoring it - that's the way they roll and you should know that. Once that kid has committed elsewhere, they will then extend additional offers that they can honor from there. Dabo laid it out pretty clear in his presser that these late offers and takes are all kids that they have been following and recruiting for some time, often years. There are a few exceptions like ETN and Simmons who were relatively new to the staff at the time, who stepped in front of someone similar they had already been targeting.
Secondly, Dabo is not going to offer a scholarship to anyone that he or the position coach don't want on the team. That's what you stated, and it's total BS. That's a ridiculous position that has no basis in reality.

That is a truly ignorant post. When I said Wanted you can clearly tell that I meant when they made a list of the OL men they wanted that those guys were not on that list. They were on that list of kids they’d offer in a worst case scenario happened. Which it clearly did when they missed on literally everyone. If those were the ones they truly “wanted” they would have offered them first. Stop acting like I’m saying they are being forced to put players on the team they don’t want.

Given how average the line has been I think it can still get better quickly under good coaching. The star rating on these guys is a bummer but we've made 4* linemen look like trash anyway. The situation has been so bad it can only get better.

It wasn’t so much the stars of our OL who was signed, but more of a developmental issu when you look at who we already have. We had a good OL haul the last 2 years. I think Luke will develop the ones already on the team and this class and future classes.

Our OLine class is crap. Idgaf what most of you are saying, "trust the coaches?" You are joking I hope. You seen where trust got us the last couple years. We offer these local kids and these less than average players. It's incredibly silly and you're blind to think this is such a great OL class, or even Good. It's a FCS OL class. And if I remember correctly "Best is the Standard" well I guess we aren't practicing what we preach. Some of you need to take your orange lens classes off and look at it for what it is.

Actually, Clemson's current roster has arguably one if the highest cumulative star ratings that Swinney has had in his tenure. I think that a lot of you are gonna be shocked when you see a great veteran coach can do with talent. I think the oline talent is there to be a Top 15 line next season. Luke is a top notch recruiter. The late additions this year were all due to him. Relax.

All of our position classes rate at least C(Clemson)+ so give them a chance to show us what they can do. No use dwelling on how we recruited in the past, see what Luke does with what we have and recruit going forward. Maybe one of our Gurus can come up with how our combined 2015 or 2016 OL groups rated! It would be interesting to see.
