Same story, different witnesses. James, the apostle at Jerusalem calls his scattered folks the twelve tribes scattered abroad. In Acts chapter 8, Luke writes & calls those same people the church scattered abroad. The words are being used interchangeably because the church is the Israel of God. This also means that dispensationalism & the Left Behind crowd's interpretation of who the 144,000 are in Revelation 7 is completely bogus.
James 1 King James Version 1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Acts 8 King James Version 8 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
