1 reason Brownell should get another year

Jan 20, 2017, 1:40 PM

Sorry...cant think of one.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

there is one and only one...

Jan 20, 2017, 1:42 PM

that HUGE buyout.

My guess....

Jan 20, 2017, 1:49 PM

Is that women's basketball is such a nightmare that there will be a change there at the end of the season, and the AD might not want to do two searches at once. That would be difficult

Re: My guess....

Jan 20, 2017, 1:59 PM

I get that, but given the current winning environment, I can't see DRad hanging on to Brownell if the slide continues...again.

There's a lot more profile and revenue in MBB than WBB.

DRad is the one who unnecesssarily gave BB that huge buyout

Jan 20, 2017, 2:44 PM

and to fire him now would be tantamount to admitting that doing so was a an unbelievably poor decision.

Maybe DRad can bring TDP in as a consulant

Jan 20, 2017, 2:53 PM

on how to fire a coach in the season immediately after giving a contract extension/huge buyout to said coach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In fairness...

Jan 20, 2017, 2:58 PM

TDP was fully prepared to call Bowden's bluff and let him walk until President Barker intervened.

Good point! I had forgotten that.***

Given the potential lost revenue, Brownell's salary next

Jan 20, 2017, 2:02 PM [ in reply to My guess.... ]

year relative to hers, and the fact that she's had only 4 years while Brownell has had 7 suggests that Brownell's situation take precedence.

But, I think DRad can walk and chew gum at the same time. He gets paid a fine salary for that. Plus, he's losing a $20,000 bonus if the men's team doesn't make the tournament. That's starting to add up.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I might agree with you if...

Jan 20, 2017, 2:32 PM [ in reply to My guess.... ]

the AD was actually involved in the previous searches for a wimmins bball coach.

In each of the last three hires (McKinney, Coleman, and Smith), all of which were terrible hires IMO, the AD assigned that task to his subordinates (a couple of female associate AD's). The AD simply rubber stamped their recommendation and here we are, looking for our fourth coach in twelve years.

We have a women's basketball team?

Jan 20, 2017, 4:48 PM [ in reply to My guess.... ]

Wow - we still have WBB? Amazing. Do people actually watch that? I have never watched a CLEMSON WBB game in it's entirety. In the 60's, we would go early to the MBB games and watch the end of the WBB game.

The point is: Why in the world would CLEMSON put more emphasis on WBB getting a new coach when the MBB is in a state of idiocy? If DRad uses that logic, then we need a new AD. That's just plain stupid. Focus on your priorities.

Here's an analogy: You owe credit card debt on 2 cards. Card A charges 20% interest, and Card B charges 3% interest. Which one do you focus on paying off first? If you answered Card A, then you get to keep your job as AD. All other answers will be a FAIL for you.

the best reason .... we just won the National Championship

Jan 20, 2017, 1:54 PM

in football ... who gives a rats ### about basketball for a long while?

Re: 1 reason Brownell should get another year

Jan 20, 2017, 2:12 PM

Agree. As much as I like BB personally his basketball coaching skills are AWOL. He won against the weakest part of our schedule and now lays an egg as we entered the ACC portion. Every day/night it seems that something else causes us to lose and that is a clear sign that he no longer has control over the program and the players. If I were DRAD, he would be fired immediately. Either that or simply write off another dismal year. We've had enough excuses on this board re BB's performance. It is now time for action.
tolerating his horrible performance is not longer acceptable IMO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought that everyone agreed this year was his last chance

Jan 20, 2017, 3:33 PM

but now I have started to hear several people say "this year and next year". It always keeps getting extended 1 more year

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it's not "everyone's decision"

Jan 20, 2017, 4:07 PM

contrary to what the azzholes here on TNET

would like to think about themselves.

Why is it that otherwise decent Tiger fans

turn into entitled Tarholes

once basketball season arrives?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not being happy with 1-5

Jan 20, 2017, 4:12 PM

is equal to being a Tar Heel elite? What record will it finally be ok to be worried about the team? 1-7? 1-9? Never?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Zion Williamson...

Jan 20, 2017, 4:05 PM

unlike football,

in basketball 1 recruit

CAN make a program difference that lasts for years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Zion Williamson...

Jan 20, 2017, 4:51 PM

Some of us might stop worrying / complaining when we get that "1 recruit". Do you have a ETA on that? Asking for anyone that actually gives a rip about our BBall team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tates could have landed him

Class of 2018. The infamous 9 year plan?

Jan 21, 2017, 12:47 PM [ in reply to Zion Williamson... ]

Or would the new battle cry be that "he's only a freshman. you knuckleheads wait til next year."

Maybe we get to the Tournament in year 10?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not writing off this season just yet.

Jan 20, 2017, 4:44 PM

We still have 12 ACC games left - there's still time to turn this thing around. Yes, I too thought that at least making the NCAA Tournament & then hopefully making a run were reasonable expectations for this year's team. I too have been disappointed by our team's play, especially in the 2nd half. It seems to me that every time an opponent goes on a run we panic, abandon our game plan & fail to execute.

That said, hopefully the turnaround can start this Saturday against Virginia Tech. I admit that our fans & administration have been plenty patient & that patience does have its limits. But when we're talking about firing the head coach, the 1st question should always be "Whom better can we replace him with?" As brutal as the ACC has always been year-in & year-out, success for us in basketball has been fleeting, & it's always been a steep uphill climb. It's not like we could just have our pick of big-name coaches. I mean, we might get lucky or we might end up with another dud.

But this much I'll say for certain: negativism has never accomplished anything. I'm still going to come out to Littlejohn & support our team.
