Absolutely, and like I said soon after he was named our OC, Dabo better without a spit second wasted on someone on staff, or not even at Clemson yet, but someone needs to be stepping in every track that Garrett steps learning everything he knows or does with this offense we'll be using this coming season bc Garrett may not even be our OC heading into whatever bowl game we're in at the end of the season. They should be connected at the hip of Garrett with a handheld mini recorder taking verbal notes of everything he does, and why he did something different in almost the same situation prior. And his playbook should be an opened book to whoever Dabo intends to take his place after he's gone bc, Garrett Riley will not be the OC at Clemson but a minute if just any ole Head Coaching JOB will do as long as he is the HC.

ALL, and I do mean that loves Clemson FB as I do, we should be touching base with our Lord and Savior everyday that Garrett Riley will use his position with Clemson FB in the very same way as Brent Venables did exactly, and just do his best job everyday that he is capable of doing and bide his time until the HC job comes open at the university that he has dreamed of being the HC at. If he follows BV path to the T, it maybe 2 or more years before his dream HC-ing job comes open, and the AD at that dream job feels that Garrett is ready to assume all the responsibilities as a HC Garrett will be gone, I will pray that he bides his time for that right university (dream job) the same as BV did while at Clemson. OC/DC that's worth their salt can use Clemson to wait on their dream job bc Clemson is a school that CAN win at the highest level, I believe that is what they would want bc Clemson is as good a place as anyone could use for biding their time waiting for their dream JOB....

He’ll be hard to hang on to as a coach

Hope he doesn’t take our QB recruiting with him when he is hired to be a head coach. I hope he at least stays 2 seasons. Hopefully, he won’t take the coot job when they fire or lose Shane.

Those lists are fun, but not to be taken seriously.

Great for summer click bait. Not much else.

Josh Gattis was just fired at Miami. Now he's on a hot list for head coach. Go figure.

And, every serious FSU fan can tell you that Alex Atkins (OC/OL) at FSU is on as many AD short lists as any of the guys on this list.

Not taking anything away from Riley. He should definitely be on the list. His biggest drawback is his age. But, if Clemson makes the playoffs this year, his name will be as hot as anybody's.

Well lets just hope for what I said in the above post, hopefully there is a job, a university that he would really like to be the HC at, hopefully he waits that job out at Clemson before he makes anymore moves bc, if he was to take a job at one of those schools that's never won much of anything and he stays there for 3, 4, 5 years and that school still never has a big winning season, he may never get the job at his dream school if that isn't where he lands with his first HC-ing job.

All HC's has that one school where they would love to be the HC at, so he will have to be careful at what HC-ing job that he takes with his first time as a HC, he could end up bouncing around to one bad school after another like Chad Morris, he went nowhere fast after he left Clemson. Jeff Scott he did a nose dive at his first HC-ing job bc he took a job at a school that was failing before he went there. Dabo would have probably did a nose dive at USF. From what I have seen through the years, coordinators has to be really careful about where they make that jump to a HC at, the wrong place can set them back for yearsss!!!

I think we all knew this would be a short-term thing with him. I'm happy if we get 2 years with him.

This is why he and Jeff Scott are tied at the hips rn

And Richardson isn’t chopped liver either. We will be fine. We just needed Riley to jumpstart us on the O side after getting too stale over the years under TE. If Scott or Richardson takes over after Riley leaves, it should be just fine.

I agree that Dabo needs for someone he can trust to join Garrett at hip to learn what makes his offense work, and how he plans for the different DC's we will face week in and week out. Having a handheld voice recorder taking verbal notes of the why or why not everything is done the way that he does it at every practice they have together for the entire time that Garrett is with our Tigers. I mean also go as far as far as video recording how plays are lined up and what makes it work with every style of defense we will face. If they do that, and when they get it all down to the T, then they could work their own ideas in to make it different for years down the road. If I were Garrett's assistant, he couldn't fart at practice without me being close enough to him to know what he had eat the night before bc what he does is what makes him worth what he's paid!!!

If Clemson has a really good year he will get offers, i can't see him leaving for a school with a bad history of winning.

Oh Please. Everyone said that about Venables too EVERY YEAR and he was at Clemson for almost a decade.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Venables always implied he wasn’t looking to be a head coach

May 23, 2023, 9:43 AM

… and it took a mega opportunity like Oklahoma to lure him.

Chad Morris would probably be a better example to work with, because he was looking for his head coaching job the minute he hit the Clemson campus. And it didn’t even have to be a great head coaching job. He just wanted to be in charge.

Maybe (hopefully) Riley is more like Venables than Morris and he builds something great at Clemson before moving on.

But, for now (as others have pointed out) he hasn’t coached a single snap at Clemson yet, so he has a LOT to prove.

Whatever happens, know this. Yes, he hasn't called a play yet (with the spring game being an exception). He does have a foot up on the potential ladder. Big Stinko was gone before he was hired. That in itself is going to boost his stock. He can thank Cade for that.

Dabo hiring him is quite an endorcement.

there with THAT prediction. Where do I sign up to get paid for making predictions like that?

I got one for you, like that.

"Joe Biden and Donald Trump will be on short list of candidates that will run for President in 2024."

Just send the check c/o Tigernet, I am sure Crump or B-Meist will get it to me.
