Was standing in line in a store off I95 about an hour ago where I heard a couple talking to the cashier.
The cashier asked the couple where they were from as they had just a bit of an accent. They said Canada.
I translated some Pee Dee English for them as they were checking out.
I followed them out and asked them what province they were from. They said Quebec. I told them that I’ve enjoyed visiting their country, especially enjoyed Nova Scotia this August and planned to hike around Newfoundland this August.
They were very friendly and wanted to chat. They indicated they were slightly reluctant to come back to the States, but everyone on previous trips and on this trip were friendly to them.
I assured them that the vast majority of Americans were not interested in annexing Canada and don’t approve of Trump’s shidd talking to their PM.
It’s a pretty sad state of affairs to have a President acting like a 7th grade bully.
I actually apologized for Trump being such a tool towards their country.
They laughed and said it wasn’t my fault and it isn’t, but it’s a shame to have a President who doesn’t drink, but acts like he’s trashed.
We’ve gone from an undisciplined bully to a senile mental mess, back to an undisciplined bully.
Based on the first 7+ weeks, it’s hard to fathom how crazy things are going to get.

The day of the election last year....

I was at an industry gathering, and I sat next to a guy from Toronto during a lunch. We were talking about US politics, and he said, "well, the US is very loud and overly-dramatic about politics...but you guys usually end up pulling together." I told him that I was worried that the "pulling together" part was over.
Then, I met a lady at the same conference who lived in Minnesota, but was from Canada. She said she was worried about the US, and was thinking of moving back to Canada.
In my visits to Canada, I've always liked the people there, and they have a lot to be proud of. Historically, the US had a lot to be proud of. But right now, we're a big problem to Canada, and it's entirely our fault, not their fault.
It's too bad more people didn't vote for Kamala in 2024. She had her faults. But she's much preferable to what we have now.

Kamala Harris would be an awful President as well.
Both choices sucked.

I still maintain that there was a group behind the curtain pulling the strings when Biden was pretty much unfit.
Have an inkling Harris woulda been controlled too
Better or not? who knows

Different choices, but Harris was not the answer either.
One thing I’m sure of, our border would still be porous and every identity political objective would be glorified.
She would have been very bad in her own way.
I watched Harris at some AI forum and the only intelligence on display was most certainly not hers.
Pick your poison.

I don't think it's "pick your poison" when one side doesn't respect elections & democracy and the other does.
If Harris were president, we wouldn't be in trade wars with Mexico & Canada. We wouldn't be threatening to invade Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal. We wouldn't be on Russia's side of the Ukraine war. We also wouldn't have an unelected oligarch firing thousands without cause, only to realize our mistake and try to rehire a bunch of them. We also wouldn't have a cabinet that's full of kooks. She is also more pro-first-amendment than Trump. And she respects Democracy and elections, which Trump does not.
This tightrope where it's a pox on both houses falls apart easily under inspection.

Its a hypothetical

Because Harris was so bad that she lost to Trump and she’s so bad a candidate, I’d be shocked if she’s ever the Dem nominee again. There are far better candidates.
I’ll grant you things regarding foreign affairs and mass federal firings wouldn’t be a thing, but don’t tell me Biden/Harris are champions of the First Amendment.
It was Biden that set up the Disinformation Governance Board and leaned on social media giants to censure information.
It was the Biden Administration that monitored school board meetings, Catholic Churches, etc looking for domestic terrorists.
I don’t care for Trump, but he’s about as transparent as they come. Under Biden there was little speech at all and under Harris there was/is little that is intelligent above a 3rd grade level.
This early in his term, I’ll grant you Trump has been far more disruptive and erratic than Harris, but over four years, I do believe the country would not be in a good place under Harris.
Neither Trump nor Harris was remotely the best either Party could offer up.

>>There are far better candidates.
OK, but that's a separate argument from whether she's better than Trump. There can be "better candidates" than her, but also worse candidates than her who are still better than Trump.
>>It was Biden that set up the Disinformation Governance Board and leaned on social media giants to censure information...It was the Biden Administration that monitored school board meetings, Catholic Churches, etc looking for domestic terrorists.
OK, but I'm talking about Harris. She's not the same person as Biden. Trump's bullying and use of lawsuits & threats, as well as ghosting certain words out of public facilities, as well as sending immigrants to private concentration camps, is going to wind up being much worse than a "governance board". He does not believe in free speech, free press, or free elections, and has already committed numerous felonies. There's nothing that's comparable in scope that would have come from a Harris presidency.
>>I don’t care for Trump, but he’s about as transparent as they come.
Trump talks to the press alot (the press people he allows in the room). But he's lying left and right. That's not transparency. That's what an autocrat does. There wasn't a peep about invading Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal during the campaign. That seemingly came out of nowhere after he won the election. Again, not transparent.
>>Under Biden there was little speech at all and under Harris there was/is little that is intelligent above a 3rd grade level.
Again, Harris is not Biden. And when she got on the debate stage with Trump, she tore him to pieces. I think you're being victim to MAGA disinformation when you imply that she's stupid.
Neither Trump nor Harris was remotely the best either Party could offer up.
That's probably true. But Harris is better than Trump, and would be a better president than Trump. That's an obvious thing at this point.

I met a Canadian who was sick and tired of his country censoring speech and euthanizing 1 out of every 20 people who die in his formerly great country. He said he didn't blame us for getting sick of them screwing us over on trade deals and that he would love to have a first amendment to protect his feeedoms, which they do not have in Canada. I assured him I would immediately spread the word online about his concern and he was very thankful. Those Canadians are nothing if not polite.

Is he serious? Just trolling? If he's just trolling..what is he getting from that?
And if he's serious, how does he intend on making this happen? They don't want it--so are we going to militarily invade Canada?
