X/O of the OL. Many complaints from folks, but here's what

I see.

General Complaint #1: No push, not blowing DL off the ball.
Response: We do run some old-school Iso plays where we block straight ahead, but alot of our power plays have the playside T & G (and C) blocking down; the backside tackle steps into the B gap to keep the play from getting blown up from the back side; the pulling guard leaves a void that the C is supposed to fill. The playside DE goes unblocked and is the read man. SO....there are several lateral to only slightly vertical steps in there except by the pulling guard and a blocking RB. You don't blow the DL off the ball in this type of run at most places along the line...the goal is to form a wall. Watch the blocking on Phil's first run...a thing a beauty where very few guys are blowing the DL up.

Don't confuse down blocking with not blowing people off the ball...it's a different concept.

General Complaint #2: Can't pass protect.
Response: Our pass pro is fairly sound. Cade makes it difficult for the OL, particularly T, because he retreats quickly in the pocket and keeps backing up til he delivers or bails. There is a pretty sound pocket.

In the negative, our C and G have a tough time feeling/blocking their guys while blocking a delayed blitz. Our shifting from a double team to a LB or looping DL is slow/clunky; maybe due to lack of punch from the C in the original double team.

So that's it....Go Tigers!

AND - y'all to realize it was 34-0 at half, right!??

Cade is backing up or bailing cause the oline sucks.***

No. He is backing up because he had hardly in his HS FB career suffered from anything less than resting comfortably in a Lazy Boy recliner after taking the snap, having all day to look here and there until a receiver got wide open. That is the beauty of a HS QB playing on Texas’ best HS team.

In college, those experiences don’t happen. On those rare occasions against FL Atlantic and Chas Southern when he faced a blitz, he got ruffled. Thereafter, he played too frequently on roller skates.

He is learning pocket presence (much better this year vs last year [when he was dreadful]), but still has a long ways to go. We all hope that his long upward learning curve can be navigated quickly.

Your points are very valid. That being said, there is consistent noticeable pressure on pass plays and this was against much inferior competition which concerns me. I get it if we are playing solid P5 lines, but that was not the case the last 2 games. Maybe a little more max protect at times?

As for the run plays, I get what you are saying there too, however the line is not manning up well and sliding defenders where they need to as there are no large creases to run through either. The line did a much better job of this in the Duke game especially in the second half.

Not sure if it is gelling or what and the oline is never going to be perfect and not get beat on occasion. Our line needs to lower the percentage at which we are getting beat and/or reduce the mental mistakes that allow the penetration. Note: some could be on the backs as well.

Hoping for a good game from the oline on Saturday as it will be needed.

I feel like everyone’s big complaint about Cade was that pocket awareness was bad. We saw it last year and in the spring game.

But now it’s the OLs fault for someone reason lol? We have a young QB that isn’t comfortable in the pocket yet. That makes the OL look much worse than they are.

I also think they’ve played fine so far this year. Big test this week though.
