Clemson signed five offensive linemen in 2005, and they were looking to sign two offensive tackles in 2006. At one point, it looked the staff may put the wraps on the 2006 signing class without any offensive linemen. No one would have criticized the staff considering the offensive line talent present in 2007.
However, the staff saw two prospects they could not pass up at the Shrine Bowl. Chris Hairston was offered, and he immediately committed. The next to receive an offer was Orangeburg-Wilkinson native Jamal Medlin. Medlin had an offer from Maryland coming into the Shrine Bowl, but now he has five offers. "Maryland offered me before the Shrine Bowl, but Clemson, NC State, South Carolina, and Virginia have offered me since. It is a completely different situation than I was in about a month ago. Now I have some options." Does Medlin have a leader? "I have a school in mind, but I want to take my visits first. I will probably make a decision before Signing Day." Clemson running backs coach Burton Burns is recruiting Medlin for the Tigers. He stopped by to see Medlin on Tuesday. "Coach Burns came by, and he let me know that he had one spot available for an offensive lineman, and he wanted it to be me. I told him Clemson was definitely near the top of my list. Coach Burns has always been straight up with me, throughout everything. He is a man of his word." We will continue to track Medlin right up to his official visit with Clemson on January 20th.
