Sprigging the Field at Death Valley |
CLEMSON -- The grounds crew sprigged the field at Death Valley
today from 9:00 AM until 1:15 PM. Sprigs are pieces of "creeping" grass and will eventually fill in any open spots between each sprig by spreading out their runners. In 1942, nearly 60 years ago to the day, Frank Howard supervised the same project when the stadium was first built. It was going at a slow pace until he said he would give the crew 50 gallons of ice cream whenever they finished. In keeping with that tradition there was a crew and media ice cream party on the field after the operation today was complete. Sprigging the field at Death Valley
