Film Grade Promotes Walker to Starting Guard

by - Correspondent -

CLEMSON - Last Saturday's first spring scrimmage paid dividends for at least

one Clemson football player.

Rising junior Greg Walker was promoted to first team left guard ahead of

Jermyn Chester after film of the scrimmage was graded. Walker joins Cedric

Johnson (center) and Nick Black (right guard) at No. 1 on the interior line

depth chart.

The Tigers are searching for replacements for graduating seniors T.J.

Watkins, Will Merritt and Kyle Young at those spots.

"You can see skill guys" and judge their performance live, Bowden said. "But

until you look at the line on film you can't (tell). We were rotating Walker

a lot (at both guards), but now we've got him nailed down."

Bowden said the offensive line typically played too high Saturday, meaning

defensive players were getting better leverage upon contact.

"Low man usually wins in football," he said. "So that's what we tried to get

done (Monday). We spent a little more fundamental time trying to get those

things corrected."

Clemson will practice again Wednesday and Thursday, and perhaps early Friday

morning, Bowden said, before taking off next week for spring break.
