Clemson President to Lead NCAA Division Board

by -

CLEMSON - Clemson University President James F. Barker has been selected to lead the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. The board selected Barker as its chair for a two-year term.

The board of directors is the highest governance body in Division I and comprises 18 campus presidents and chancellors representing the division's athletic conferences.

"The Division I Board of Directors is fortunate to have Jim Barker assume the position of chair," said NCAA President Myles Brand. "He brings a broad range of leadership from the campus, conference and national levels to this new role."

"I appreciate the confidence in me my colleagues in NCAA Division I have shown," Barker said. "It's also a tribute to Clemson University, and I'm honored to serve my school and the goals of intercollegiate athletics in this role."

Barker succeeds outgoing chairman Philip Austin, president of the University of Connecticut.
