*Russell is technically a sophomore, but we will include him in our freshman forecast.

Russell has covered a lot of ground since signing with Colorado out of high school. He hopes his final destination will be in Clemson, South Carolina.

Clemson recruited Russell to provide immediate help at safety. With the loss of Jamaal Fudge, Chris Clemons and Michael Hamlin are the only two players left on the roster with experience at free safety. Hamlin is the starter at cat safety, and he will be able to focus strictly on cat this year. Clemons made the switch to free safety in the middle of last season after working at cornerback through fall camp.

Russell did get a taste of the college game, while he was at Colorado. The staff expects big things from him very early on. He has the size and speed to be a very good player at this level. Defensive coordinator Vic Koenning uses a wide variety of coverages.

How fast Russell can pick up the coverages will go a long way into how much he can play. He is currently participating in spring practice, and the early returns are good, but he will have to make a strong showing to overtake Clemons.

Freshman Forecast: 2nd Team Free Safety
