made a game-saving play late in Saturday's win over Louisville, chasing down Louisville receiver Eli Quick to make a tackle that saved a touchdown. Clemson's defense held on fourth down, but defensive coordinator Brent Venables gave Kearse a minus on the play.

explained it this way: "We were in cover two, and Jayron was supposed to be high on the other side of the field. But he got out of position, and thank goodness he did because I don't know if he would have caught up to him otherwise. I was just watching and hoping he could catch him. But because he was a little out of position, Coach Venables gave him a minus on the play."
