free agency. A good player negotiates a near million a year contract, but then gets cut. Not because he is an inferior player, but because, due to the salary cap, his contract works against him. He will be replaced by a cheaper, inferior player. This is completely contrary to what teams ought to be about, which is building the best team to try and win games.

I don't think there is any doubt that this practice has lowered the caliber of game play. Nowadays, a team can look like a world beater one week, and then get their own socks blown off by an "inferior" team the next week. Vince Lombardi, whose name is on the trophy, WOULD be p!ssed at that. I doubt if he cared that players tossed the trophy around in celebration of a Super Bowl win.
