2013 LB recruit has Clemson atop list, loves visit to Death Valley |
CLEMSON – One of the top 2013 linebackers out of the state of North Carolina visited Clemson for the spring game two weeks ago, and he came away impressed enough to say that Clemson was his best visit so far.
“I liked it a lot, one of my favorites if not my favorite,” the 6-2, 220-pound sophomore said. “I like the tradition and history there, and I like the facilities as well. I got to see where they study and stuff, and then I got to see all of the football facilities. I really liked it.” His favorite part of the trip already has him thinking a few years ahead – to a night game in Death Valley. “The best part of the trip was when they let us rub the rock and run down the hill,” Kalambayi said. “They played the music and that was awesome. If I got to do that for real – that would be great. I have always wondered what that would feel like.” He registered 150 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception in leading Butler to a 16-0 record and its second consecutive 4-AA state championship in 2010, but faces a position change this season. “ I played inside linebacker last season, but I’m moving to outside linebacker next year,” he said. “The coaches want to take advantage of my speed. The coaches tell me that I play like a hybrid guy – someone like Brian Urlacher or one of those guys.” Kalambayi said he runs a 4.5 second 40-yard dash, bench presses 250 pounds, squats 425 pounds and power cleans 300 pounds. He also does well in the classroom, and says that recruiting is starting to get heavier. “It’s been starting to pick up now,” he said. “I’ve been getting mail for a while now, since early in my freshman year, but now I am getting calls and mail. I hear from [Clemson recruiter Danny] coach Pearman a lot. Clemson is definitely a place I feel comfortable, and I could see myself going there.” Kalambayi made the trip to the Clemson spring game with two other 2013 Butler prospects – wide receiver
