Cloy and Maye Named Freshman All-Americans

by -

Clemson, SC—Clemson freshmen Mason Cloy, Brandon Maye and DaQuan Bowers have all been named to various freshman All-America teams. Sophomore Jarvis Jenkins has also been named to a Sophomore All-America squad.

Cloy, a starting guard on the Tigers team that will play Nebraska on Jan. 1 in the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl, has been named a first-team Freshman All-American by College Football News. He has also been named a second-team Freshman All-American by Rivals.com and is a third team choice by Phil Steele’s College Football Magazine.

Cloy started the last 11 games for the Tigers and helped Clemson win four of its last five games to qualify for bowl bid. Cloy played 608 snaps, third among offensive linemen and ranked second in knockdown blocks with 53. When he starts in the Gator Bowl he will tie the Clemson record for games started in a season by a freshman offensive lineman. Eric Harmon started 12 games in 1987.

Maye was named a second-team Freshman All-American by Sporting News, College Football News and Rivals.com and was a third team choice by Phil Steele’s College Football Magazine.

Maye finished the regular season with 83 tackles and ranked first in the ACC in tackles among freshmen. His total was the most by a Clemson freshman since 1995 when Anthony Simmons had 150.

Bowers was named an honorable mention freshman All-American by College Football News. The starting defensive end had 41 tackles this year to rank first among Clemson defensive linemen and was a big reason, along with Maye, that the Tigers ranked 10th in the nation in scoring defense.

Jenkins was named a second-team Sophomore All-American by College Football News. Jenkins had 36 stops, but 10 of them were tackles for loss, tied for best on the team.
