Clemson did very well in 2006 recruiting class in the secondary. The Tigers would like to add another strong class in 2007. A player Clemson is looking at closely is Ponte Vedra cornerback Mario Butler.
Butler is a big physical corner prospect, who could also play safety at the next level, but Butler says he is fine with either.
"Right now, I play mostly at cornerback. It is a big challenge for me every week, because the coaches use me to shut down the opponent's top guy. It is the type of pressure I want to play under. At safety, you have a chance to make some bigger hits."
Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Georgia Tech have already offered Butler, and several schools are very close.
"I am hearing from a lot of schools. Virginia Tech is probably recruiting me the hardest right now. Florida is showing a lot of interest. I am going there sometime in April. I will get to hang out with Tim (Tebow)."
Does Butler list any favorites?
"No, I am wide open right now. I am going to take some unofficial visits in April, so I can get a better feel for some schools that I am looking at."
