Paul Johnson on Clemson: "how can the expectation be to beat them?" |
CLEMSON -- Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson spoke to reporters on Tuesday and talked about his team's 35-21 loss to #10 Miami and then got a little touchy but brutally honest on the subject of his team's expectations with new athletic director Todd Stansbury.
“No matter what you do — and this is like I tell our team about playing — commitment has to meet expectations,” Johnson said. “You can’t have expectations without commitment. It won’t work. No matter what you do. So if you say you want to be on this level, then you have to be committed to be on that level, and you have to do what those people are doing. Simple as that.” “I don’t know that anybody gets that. You can ask that about anybody,” Johnson said. “But what I’m saying, you guys look, you don’t have to ask me — Do you think we’ve got the same thing Clemson does?” Clemson has some of the nicest facilities in college football with their beautiful stadium Death Valley, the added amenities in the West Endzone, and the state of the art Football Operations Facility which is near completion. “Then how can the expectation be to beat them [Clemson]?” Johnson said. The Yellow Jackets lost to the Tigers 26-7 two weeks ago in which Clemson's defense manhandled their offense and made them appear comparable to a simple high school wishbone offense. Johnson continued to plea for his administration to give him the resources to be successful in the newer and tougher ACC conference. “This is not the old ACC,” Johnson said. “It's like 10, 15, 20 years ago; there might be one ranked team. And now you have six. I mean Every week there’s pretty good teams. People have committed, for whatever reason the other schools have committed to it. To have a good program.” What Paul Johnson won't admit is the only reason a big school would ever employ him is because it doesn't have a level playing field If Georgia Tech had the same fan base, facilities and financial support as Clemson the one thing it wouldn’t be doing is the triple option
