Clemson is ranked 4th in the nation in the ESPN 2016 Football Power Index released on Thursday.

ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance for a season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is, and projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule.

The top five for 2016 were Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Clemson and Tennessee according to the FPI.

Clemson has a projected win-loss record of 10.5 wins and 1.9 losses, 8.0% chance to win out, 30.8% chance to win the ACC and a strength of schedule of 34 overall.

ACC schools rankings according ESPN's FPI were Florida State (#1), Clemson (#4), Louisville (#12), North Carolina (#21), Pittsburgh (#26), Miami (#31), North Carolina State (#41), Virginia Tech (#43), Georgia Tech (#47), Boston College (#52), Duke (#54), Syracuse (#59), Wake Forest (#60) and Virginia (#66).

Other notable rankings include Notre Dame at #20 and rival South Carolina at #44.

Clemson finished this past season with a final AP ranking of #2 which was the school's highest ranking since 1981.
