ATLANTA (Nov. 12, 2013) Chick-fil-A Bowl representative Frank Stiteler will visit Memorial Stadium on Thursday for the Clemson – Georgia Tech game. Both are being scouted as potential representatives in the 2013 Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31.
The ACC and SEC team selections for the 46th annual Chick-fil-A Bowl will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 8. The Chick-fil-A Bowl is the oldest guaranteed ACC vs. SEC match-up in the bowl business. Clemson and the Chick-fil-A Bowl Clemson (8-1) has made eight appearances in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, most recently in 2012 with a 25-24 victory over LSU. Clemson has also appeared in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game twice. Georgia Tech and the Chick-fil-A Bowl Georgia Tech (6-3) has made four appearances in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, most recently in 2008 against LSU. The Yellow Jackets also appeared in the 2000, 1978 and 1971 games. Chick-fil-A Bowl Achieves Earliest Sellout in its History There has not been a Chick-fil-A Bowl game ticket available for sale on game day in 18 years, and this year will be no different. The final ACC vs. SEC rivalry game before the Chick-fil-A Bowl joins the College Football Playoffs next year will be its 17th straight sellout – a streak only exceeded by the Rose Bowl. About the Chick-fil-A Bowl Now in its 46th year, the Chick-fil-A Bowl has established itself as one of the nation’s elite bowl games with a string of 17 consecutive sellouts. The Chick-fil-A Bowl leads all other bowl games in charitable and scholarship contributions, and has disbursed more than $117.8 million in team payouts over its 45-year history. Other events under the Chick-fil-A Bowl brand include the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament and the season-opening Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. In April, the Chick-fil-A Bowl was selected to be a part of a group of six bowls to host the new College Football Playoff beginning in 2014 (Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Rose, Sugar). Over the next 12 years, the Chick-fil-A Bowl will host a National Semifinal (#1 vs. #4 or #2 vs. #3) every 3 years – the first following the 2016 season. In the other 8 years, the Bowl will host top-ranked teams as assigned by the CFP Selection Committee.
