Swinney on Twitter: "I still like to talk to people" |
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney spoke to the media on Tuesday afternoon before his team prepared for its first practice of the fall.
Swinney was asked about a new Twitter rule that allowed coaches to retweet and share social media posts to potential prospects. "I don't get into all of that stuff, Swinney said. "What a crazy world. Jeff [Scott] can tell you all about that." Swinney was asked by a reporter when he thought he would get on Twitter in the future. "I have no idea," Swinney said. "I don't see it happening. Why do I need to be on there? I don't understand that. I really don't. I don't see why people care about what I ate for dinner or where I'm at today. I don't need followers. It's crazy." He then shared that he has a new experiment where he actually talked to people in person instead of on Twitter. "I was talking about my new experiment as I am going to apply the social media principles in real life," Swinney said. "I have already started. It's a great project. I've walked down the street, and I stop random people and show pictures of what I had for breakfast and pictures of my wife and my dog and my kids. I show them pictures of me sitting at the beach, swimming in the pool. I then ask them if I can see their pictures, and sometimes I give them my opinion on things whether they want them or not. So I am up to four followers - two social workers, a police officer, and a psychiatrist. It's my social media experiment. I know its great for Clemson football to be able to promote our brand, communicate, and connect to recruits but for me, it's just one more layer of stuff. I still like to talk to people. It seems like a lost art. I text people, email. I'll write. I don't have time for all of that."
