Clemson coaches take in a Phillies game

by - Senior Writer -

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott and quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter are in Philadelphia for this weekend's NFL Draft, and the trio traveled to Citizens Bank Park to take in a Phillies game.

Scott calls it a "tradition" after the coaches attended a Chicago Cubs game before last year's draft.

Swinney was even given a game ball by Phillies first baseman Thomas Joseph, and the trio watched a grand slam by Maikel Franco. Swinney then took a few minutes to do an interview on the local Phillies broadcast.

"So far so good for the Phillies. You don’t get to see a grand slam too often, so that’s a rare treat," Swinney said. "It’s (the draft) special because for us we meet a lot of these guys in the ninth grade and some of them even earlier in our youth game. Like a father, you watch them grow up and part of college is figuring life out and the maturation process. To see these guys become graduates is what makes college football so much fun."

Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and wide receiver Mike Williams are both expected to be taken in Thursday night's first round.
