Report: Former Clemson OC expected to take head coaching job |
Arizona State offensive coordinator Billy Napier
is expected to accept the head coaching position at Louisiana-Lafayette according to multiple reports.
Napier told his players about the coaching news prior to their morning practice on Friday. His offer from ULL is reportedly for five years and around $900K annually but up to $1.47 million with bonuses. He made 550K at Arizona State this past season. "A deal is imminent with Louisiana to make ASU OC Billy Napier its new head coach," CFB insider Bruce Feldman tweeted. "Napier, a former Alabama & Clemson assistant, did a very nice job at ASU and is really connected in the South." Arizona State has been going through some heavy turmoil as they recently fired Todd Graham paying a $12 million buyout and replaced him with ESPN analyst Herm Edwards. Now, it appears they have lost both coordinators (defensive coordinator Phil Bennett resigned) that were overlooked for the head coaching position. Napier spent last season with Arizona State and previously was on Alabama's staff as an offensive analyst from 2013-2016. He spent five seasons (2006-2010) at Clemson, working with the offense in different capacities including offensive coordinator from 2009-2010. As a tight ends coach in 2006, he helped the Tigers to lead the ACC in total offense, rushing offense and scoring offense.
