Clemson safety injured thumb at practice

by - Assoc. Editor -

Clemson safety Van Smith spoke to the media following Thursday's practice and shared that he is nursing a recent thumb injury from practice.

"It's not bad," Smith said of the injury. "Diving for a pick and got it jammed up on the ground. That's all it is."

Smith says he expects to play in Clemson's first scrimmage despite his thumb injury.

"I should be back by Saturday," he said. "It's healing pretty fast. I should be full speed Saturday. "I'm doing everything but going down on the ground and it's not causing too many problems."

Smith had 96 tackles including 5.5 for loss and two interceptions last season.
