More on Dean: Jad Dean grew up a Clemson fan and waited for the offer that came from Tommy Bowden in July. Dean regularly nailed kicks of over 60 yards in practice. As a junior, he was four of five on field goals with a long of 48 yards. He was 46 of 48 on PATs that season. As a sophomore, he was 10 of 14 on field goals and 52-55 on PATs. As a senior, he was nine of 12 on field goals. He had 59 touchbacks on 66 kickoffs. He averaged 39.8 yards per punt. Dean had offers from LSU, Georgia and Florida State. Recruited by John Lovett.
Quoting Dean: “I tried out for football in middle school in 7th grade and I made it as a wide receiver. One day he asked if anybody could kick and no one had ever played soccer so he asked me to come out there. I kicked pretty good, and he said I was more valuable as a kicker than I would be as a wide receiver.”
