to a conference and their habit of living vicariously through the success of other SEC teams applies to fans of teams in other conferences. The whole conference fandom phenomenon is a uniquely SEC trait.
When Duke lost to Texas A&M, the ESPN message boards were flooded with SEC fans talking crap to any fan of an ACC team attacking them because they had proven that the SEC is better than the ACC because the Blue Devils lost. Although some Clemson fans will be glad that FSU won because it can help our recruiting since our conference won a National Championship and the SEC's streak is finally over, I don't know a single Clemson fan personally that is actually a fan of the ACC in general.
