Not all of God’s miracles involve something “Spectacular!”

Personally, I am a big believer that God answers prayer. I recognize that some people don’t believe that God works miracles. But I have a God miracle story to share. It walks through several weeks – culminating in last week!

Mid-Late April:
I began feeling soreness in my right wrist. I was certain it was carpal tunnel syndrome. I had gone through carpal tunnel back in my grad school days, and it cleared up on its own. I hoped it would clear up on its own this time as well. It didn’t.

Mid-May:
I shared my situation with my primary care doctor. At this time, I was just hoping to avoid surgery. I could not have been more wrong about what was going on with me!

Mid-June:
The next step was to see an orthopedic doctor. That happened in mid-June. At this point, my ankles are swelling up as well. I was convinced that the ankles were unrelated to the sore wrist. Several fingers were sore. I was convinced that it was related to carpal.

Again, I could not have been more wrong in my own diagnosis.

Late June:
The ortho doctor scheduled me for a nerve test procedure in late June. That nerve test was crazy. They connected electrodes from my elbows to my fingers. Then they sent a series of mild shocks through my hands, arms, and wrists.

I returned to the ortho doctor and was told I did not have carpal tunnel. But I had something much worse and I needed to see a rheumatologist. The ortho office said they were connecting me with a doctor in rheumatology who would be contacting me.

By this time, fingers on both hands were stiff and sore. Trying to grip something (anything) was painful. Even something light like a pillow. Gripping was difficult. Opening a bottle or a jar had become a challenge. As I told my wife, “What good is a husband if he can’t open a pickle jar?”

Both knees were also stiff and sore. Simply getting up out of a chair had become painful.

And swollen ankles.

A lot of inflammation was happening at once.

Something was happening to me. And it was getting worse. But I didn’t know what.

Mid-July:
I returned to my primary care doctor. At this point, I still had not heard from anyone in rheumatology despite the ortho office supposedly having contacted them on my behalf. My primary care doctor told me that it takes months to see a rheumatologist.

Months!!

I had already seen significant progression in whatever I was dealing with. I did not need to wait more months!!! My primary care doctor connected me with a rheumatologist whom she personally recommended. And she said she would contact them to try to get me moved up as much as possible.

Within a few days I did hear from the rheumatologist’s office. Here is where I think things get really interesting (stay with me here)!!

July 15: The Beginning of the Miracle:
On Tuesday, July 15, I was driving with my daughter when the lady from the rheumatologist's office called to set my new patient appointment. I specifically heard her say that they could schedule my appointment for “Tuesday the 22nd.”

I said specifically: “Tuesday would be perfect.” And it was perfect. I was traveling out of town that week EVERY day that week except Tuesday. Tuesday the 22nd was literally the only day that entire week that would work for me. And I repeated “Tuesday” as a way of confirming the day. We set the appointment time for 1:00.

July 22: God’s Not Dead!
On Tuesday, July 22, I walked into the rheumatologist's office at 1:00. The receptionist seemed puzzled when I introduced myself. She spends a few minutes searching her computer before saying, “Your appointment is not today. Your appointment is on April 22nd.”

My heart sank! April!!! Nine more months.

“Hold on,” the receptionist said. She then sent someone to another room. She looked at me and said, “We literally just had a cancellation for 1:00. It is 1:00 now. We are checking with the doctor on this.”

Within minutes, they were sending me back to see the doctor. I never even finished the paperwork. The rheumatologist was wonderful. She sent me for x-rays and lab work. All of which confirmed her diagnosis.

I have rheumatoid arthritis. My immune system is attacking my joints. The x-rays confirmed that my right wrist has already suffered some damage.

Rheumatoid arthritis is not age-related (osteoarthritis is the age-related arthritis). It can happen at any age and to anyone. And no one knows why it happens. And there is no cure. But there is treatment that will allow me to live a normal life going forward! (Amen to that!)

Looking Back:
I think back to the phone call I received to set up the appointment. The lady I spoke with must have said “April the 22nd.” But I definitely heard “Tuesday the 22nd.”

I responded with “Tuesday would be perfect.” She must have heard it as “That day would be perfect.” (FWIW: April 22, 2026 is a Wednesday.)

When I walked into an office that is so backed up they make new patients wait nine months, I did at the same moment that another patient canceled an appointment.

Call it whatever you want. I call it the Love of God! I have no idea how much additional damage would have been done to my body if I were to have waited until April to see the rheumatologist. And I would have been miserable: stiff and sore throughout my body in the meantime.

As I walked out of that office, I was thanking God for working out my appointment the way He did. Tears filled my eyes as I left.

Call it a series of incredibly fortunate coincidences if you want. When we think of miracles, we often gravitate to the spectacular! I will state that not all of God's miracles involve the spectacular! Sometimes God shows up and His miracles are not noticed by most people. But they happen!

God is definitely not dead!

And I am getting the treatment I need now – instead of waiting another nine months of pain and potential damage!

Here's the problem with the logic - why hasn't God also set out to perform miracles with the rest of the patients who are in pain and can't get in for an appointment until April?

I certainly understand your question, and I appreciate the manner in which you are raising it. Thank you for that!

I don't know the answer to your question. But I do know that God works with each individual differently. While His timing is always perfect, He does work with each individually in His own way. And, for whatever it is worth, RA progresses very differently for different people. Apparently, my RA was progressing fairly quickly, as I already had endured some damage to my wrist.

I suppose one could pose a different question and ask if God were intervening on getting me treated, then why did He allow me to get this disease in the first place? He could have just stopped it from happening altogether.

To that, I would contend that God never promised to take away all of our trials. But He does promise to be with us through them.

Thanks, My Friend!

A very thoughtful reply! We believe by the grace of faith bestowed. God’s plan is not for us to understand, only for us to surrender to his will. Have no fear to be dependent as a small child when we pray. Trust, Surrender, Believe, and Receive his Love. 🙏

Had an index finger just randomly swell up and wouldn't go away....it was RA.

Eight years later..it's still a struggle to keep it in remission. Methotrexate and Enbrel weekly injections. Thank God for insurance, but it's still a big chunk of change.

She used to be a runner and she really misses it...her back and feet just won't cooperate.

If you're middle aged or older and are living without pain...thank the Good Lord everyday. Because there are a lot of folks for which pain is just part of daily life.

Great reply 🙏 What many do not understand God allows us freedom of choice. In 2023 my Dog who was my best buddy followed me everywhere I went. Months before he passed away he bite me 2 times. Each bite required hand surgery and each I was in the hospital for 5 days.

I do not believe God allowed my dog to bite me. At 17 years old he was going blind. I let hand get to close to his mouth. He smelled food. Thinking it was for him I was bitten. Because I was careless it was my fault.

Because of the second bite at the ER I was treated as a critical care patient. I could have lost my finger or worse. I had emergency surgery the next day.

I thank God everyday I did not lose my finger and I have pretty good use of my right hand. I can’t blame God for my careless anymore than CFPro having RA. But I can look forward to eternal life in God’s Kingdom.

Being a Christian does mean you want have bad days or come down with serious illnesses. We chose what we eat and drink. A lot of times it’s not healthy for us.

God’s gives us 2 promises. Salvation by Grace 🙏 and if we except Jesus Christ as our Savior we are promised eternal life with no in heaven-Paradise. No more of what life was like before Heaven. Before life after death God does guarantee that being a Christian life will be easy but through his love, compassion, forgiveness, understanding and more of what God is like. He does expect that we trust in hm and have faith.

🙏🙏🙏

I was diagnosed with RA in May of 2005 at 44, so I've had it 20 years now. I've taken methotrexate for it the whole time. I started out with three 2.5 mg tablets once a week, later went to four, and now take five. I supplement ibuprofen, acetameophine, naproxen, and topical creams as needed.

The methotrexate helps me manage, but doesn't eliminate all flare ups. I get some episodes occasioanally that I have to "fight" with OTC stuff and R&R. It's often amazing the difference a day will make.

My triggers seem to be fatigue, stress, and the weather. I can manage fatigue and stress, bot obviously not the weather; cold, damp, or cold and damp are the worst. My trouble spots have been my right shoulder, left knee, wrists, and hands.

Sometimes I have to remember that a lot of people have it much worse and be thankful God is helping me through the journey. I'm reminded of the verse:
My grace is sufficient for thee: for ny strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV

Sorry for the long story.

At some point in every I believe all those replied to this thread have had a Miracle in their lives. Your post CBPro as well as some others on Tigernet have put energy into some of us who may have become complacent in our relationship with God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit. We needed a jump start to remind us that God lives and is still in charge of this World. He hears our prayers and desires for us to communicate with him daily. I know it has made a change in me and the many prayer requests mean much more.

CBProf sharing your Faith, Thoughts and your Miracle has made me remember all that God has done for me.

Some Miracles pass us by until someone reminds us that many Miracles can be smaller than when God took the young boys fish and bread to feed thousands during one of Jesus Christ sermon’s.

CBPro you as will as others with RA, Lupus, others who are struggling with an illness, money problems or something else needs our prayers and Gods love, compassion, healing, or all that God can do which is anything we ask him for with sincere gratitude.

CBPro I believe you along with past post requesting prayer has been very uplifting, inspiring and made many to be thankful for our health and for what God has blessed us with. 🙏🙏🙏
