Trying to decide how old the kiddos need to be before we can start making some trips like these. The youngest is 2 (which is "tasty morsel" size to grizzlies and Sanduskies). I'm thinking when he turns 5 we can start these kinds of trips without having to worry about entertaining him too much. Or maybe just start them now so he gets used to them.

There were a ton of people with kids. I'd say old enough where they can hike and appreciate the scenery.

I'd say the longer the better. It's just expensive as hell so you'll quickly run out of money. I highly recommend K-Bay air in Homer to fly over and see the bears. By far, the best part of the trip.

About 10' was the closest they got. The one in the grass snuck up on us. Didn't see him until he was right next to us. About a 1,000 pound male.
