Parenting Question

Mar 1, 2011, 11:26 AM

Just found out I am going to be a father for the first time. Is there something I can do over the next 8 months of pregnancy and the following years to grow/cultivate a potential Clemson quarterback or point guard for the Lady Tigers. All kidding aside, I am beyond excited and nervous about fatherhood.

Huzzah! Congratulations!

Mar 1, 2011, 11:32 AM

BTW, get as much sleep as possible now. It will become a precious commodity over the next 20 or so years.

Get rest NOW! And enjoy the time when the baby arrives. My 2 children were fun, now my baby will be 24 in April. It goes by so fast. But now I have the pleasure of watching my Grands. What a wonderful blessing life is.

Best advice I can give Mom and you it to love them, take them to church, stay involved with them through school, make sure they play sports, have their friends over as much as you can stand it.....

Be their BEST Friend. I lost my Dad/best friend 26 months ago, but I still have my Son/best friend who will be 36 this summer and is the pride of my life(along with my WIFE/best friend).

Keep those prioroties in order.

Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

Seriously see Todd Marinovich. His mom and dad (mainly dad) researched east German doctor experiments with pregnant moms. They found a very high protien diet for the pregnant mom had a very positive effect on the muscular development on the unborn child.

Never ever EVER forget 2 things:

You will mess up at some point and that is okay because no one is perfect

AND

All your kids need is to be loved and cherished by their parents. It's not quality time...it's QUANTITY time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My advice? Dive in head first ....

Mar 1, 2011, 10:44 PM

Sean79,

Congratulations on this news - wonderful. My wife and I have three daughters and we are beyond blessed.

One piece of advice I gave to fathers while teaching a Sunday School class (years ago) was to dive in head first with everyday chores. For example, change diapers. When it was not my child, changing diapers was not an option - being exposed to nuclear waste was more preferred. When it is YOUR child, if you get a little "waste" on your finger, you wipe it off on wipes and go on.

Bath time - I look back on how much I bonded with our daughters while giving them simple baths ... drying them ... dressing them in their PJ's ... little songs, nicknames, memories added up.

Lastly, if you are blessed, one day in the future you will look back and realize how yes ... they do grow up ... yes, it is fast ... yes, you begin to understand children are truly a "gift" from our Lord.

May the Lord bless you and your wife ... very happy for you and there are NO lines for Gamecock or Tiger Fans when it comes to our children.

Life is good ... Peace!
