How many T-Netters are refusing to watch

Dec 18, 2011, 7:19 PM

the MNC Game?

I know I am. I can't stand the fact that a Conference Champion is playing a team from their same division that they already defeated on the losing teams home field.

Please Board Coots don't respond as we all know you will be watching since you think that being part of the conference in some way entitles you to a part of the Championship even though conference wise you were just as irrelevant as Alabama should have been in the NC picture.

It is a complete failure of the system to have this game as the NC matchup and I will not feed the propaganda machine that pumps the SEC. OK St deserved that shot by a mile over Bammer. OK St played the tougher schedule and had higher quality wins than Bammer did all season long.

It is a freaking shame that the system works the way it does!!

Dec 18, 2011, 11:58 PM

Yes, you are absolutely correct. My decision to watch or not will not impact the BCS in one way or another, but if the masses decide that they are not going to participate in it any longer, then advertising dries up along with the BCS.

It won't happen. I understand this, and it won't happen because people love college football, like the poster above. And the BCS is going to continue to bastardize college football because people love the sport and can't miss an opportunity to watch it.

they would have been on opposite side of the bracket!!

If it were a four team playoff it would have been:

2)Bama Vs 3)OK St

1)LSU Vs 4)Stanford

at least that way Bama would have proven they deserved it over OK St rather than biased polls making the decision off of the field.

or if Alabama is better than Oklahoma State. But there is one thing I do know. LSU is better than Alabama. They proved that in Tuscaloosa.

Given their resumes, Oklahoma State deserved a shot.

And I don't buy the fact that they are playing in the title game because they are the two best defenses and defense is what wins championships. I guess Auburn and Oregon didn't get that memo last year.

As good as their defenses are, their offenses are just as bad.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But they didn't, and it does

Dec 18, 2011, 8:28 PM [ in reply to If OSU had beaten ISU, it wouldn't matter.*** ]

I've said all along that I don't weep for OKST because once you lose a game, to anyone, you didn't do all you HAD to do in order to b#### and moan about it.

But the system is broken. The rematch is just a symptom of the myriad of issues it has.

It is patently ridiculous for teams to be playing in a division of football that no matter how well they play they will never be given a chance to win (Houston, had they won their conference championship game comes to mind).

It is likewise ridiculous that in what is, to me and many others, the best sport on earth that we determine who gets the title based on voting rather than settling it on the field.

And it is BEYOND ridiculous that folks suggest these issues cannot be overcome as there are a MILLION possibilities, some better and more feasible than others, to fix em.

Dec 18, 2011, 8:31 PM [ in reply to Ignorant post...the two best teams are playing each other,,, ]

in play-offs--the NFL just for example, occasionally the public thinks that maybe the two best teams are in the same conference and whoever wins it will easily win the SuperBowl. But so often, it doesn't turn out that way.

Throw in the fact that some teams match up better with others and the surprise factors in a playoff system is what keeps the public so transfixed

Once again, for the totally bored, the BCS was the brainchild of former SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer to ENSURE there'd always be an SEC team in the National Championship game. But anytime you have polls helping determine who those teams are--as we've seen with the voting records of some coaches this year--the system is open to being influenced adversely.

Maybe one of these days (and the BCS contract ends in a couple of years), the NCAA will get the cajones to tell the SEC to GFI and set up a playoff system with all the other major conferences. Till then, we're stuck with gamecock a$$holes who contribute nearly nothing to SEC football arrogantly telling us all how great the Big Dogs really are..

What is ignorant

Dec 18, 2011, 8:32 PM [ in reply to Ignorant post...the two best teams are playing each other,,, ]

Is that we somehow have a system wherein 'best' is all opinion and not settled on a field.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrong, biased media says these are the two best teams.....

Dec 18, 2011, 8:57 PM [ in reply to Ignorant post...the two best teams are playing each other,,, ]

Problem is... we don't really know who the two best teams are without being determined on the field. When coaches vote to place a good team down the list just because they don't like them, or vote a certain team way up the list to help their conference or SOS, then the system is compromised. Very simple, the system is broke!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nobody knows this for certain. What is certain, however, is

Dec 18, 2011, 9:10 PM [ in reply to Ignorant post...the two best teams are playing each other,,, ]

that Alabama could not beat LSU at home, this season. So all of this "regular season is special" nonsense that the BCS keeps feeding us has been exposed as an absolute sham.

OK State may or may not be better than Alabama. They may or may not be better than LSU. Instead the BCS system is "choosing" a team over them that already had their chance during the regular season and lost.

It is a crock of #### and I will not be watching the MNC game and I'm encouraging those that I know to do the same. Punch BSPN in the ratings gut on this one.

Is that posted from your Blackberry? They may be the 2 best teams but the proponents of the BCS say that the regular season is a playoff. If this is the case Bama was eliminated.
Problem is mostly resolved by only allowing conference champions to play for the championship.
Really if Bama beats LSU then the series is tied for the season. Rematches are stupid!

It will be hard but I am going to boycott.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dec 19, 2011, 8:22 AM [ in reply to Ignorant post...the two best teams are playing each other,,, ]

This game is not an objective championship. I am sick of hearing how the regular season is the playoff. If that is the case, Alabama lost it's playoff game. They are in because of the polls. Don't argue that fact because even the SEC network (ESPN) stated such.

I have nothing against Alabama, they are a good team. But they blew they're shot. I don't think OK State can beat LSU but they earned they're way to the game.

Just because a team from your conference wins it all

Dec 18, 2011, 8:37 PM [ in reply to As a SEC homer I wish Oklahoma State was playing LSU ]

doesn't automatically make that conference the best. SEC has some really bad teams in it.. The SEC is top heavy with LSU, Bama, and Arkansas, but after that it falls off drastically. From top to bottom the SEC IS NOT the best conference in the nation.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with your initial statement

Dec 18, 2011, 8:44 PM

but your second part is what makes the SEC the best conference. All conferences are top heavy if they have a MNC caliber team. The SEC generally has more MNC caliber teams than any other conference.

That's why the SEC has won the last 5 and soon to be 6 titles.

Four teams in the SEC finished inside the BCS Top 9. The next highest number was 2 from the Big 12 and Pac 12. There was no representative from the Big East, ACC or Big 10 in the top 9.

Hard to argue with that.

Dec 18, 2011, 9:04 PM

It happens a lot in politics. All of the evidence points in one direction but the opposite side of the argument stands against it because "you can't make me believe it."

Which conference do you believe is the best?

We both know deep down you know the SEC is the best conference but you just don't want to admit it.

Dec 18, 2011, 9:21 PM

Y'all aren't that good, haven't played anyone...Same with Georgia. Arkansas is a pretty good team, I'll admit, but who do they play outside Bama and LSU? Outside of Bama and LSU, the SEC has nothing special to offer and some downright bad teams...And Bama didn't really play anyone either outside of LSU.

The fact is though, thats an opinion I hold. My evidence is based on watching games and 'thinking' that the SEC probably is the best conference.

'Best' in this case is entirely subjective, and an argument can be made that the Big 12 is, top to bottom, better.

While I don't think (again, think, not know) so, I do know that there exists no metric to judge that with any confidence.

Dec 18, 2011, 9:00 PM [ in reply to I agree with your initial statement ]

SEC teams are constantly ranked at the top. It's not because they are the better teams. Who did Bama play this year? Arkansas? Now LSU, there is no argument, they played the toughest schedule and went undefeated.

But it would bolster an argument.

Fact is nothing can settle such a debate as its all based on opinions and biases.

And I don't much think the system should be arranged or tweaked to try and answer that question as it should be geared to settling, on the field rather than based on votes, who the best TEAM is, not conference.

Re: How many T-Netters are refusing to watch

Dec 18, 2011, 8:39 PM

If they are using this as the determining factor for the MNC if Bama wins then why not have a third game so it would be best 2 out of 3. I saw maybe 3 or 4 teams that had great chances of beating either team or at least beat Bama. Now I think both teams are in top 10 but lets face it if both or either were in another conference or were independent we would not have this situation. When I say they are in top 10 I mean it would be hard for any team to beat both teams 2 times. My biggest problem is that this is theweakest I have seen the sec in a long time. On a given day Baylor,Okla. St. Houston or one or two other teams have a chance to beat one or two of them. Nowafter saying all this I do believe that LSU is the top team in the country but would have a tuff time taking the 13 best teams and go undefeated. Still would put my money on LSU.

Lined up on paper either Bama or OKST had a claim to #2, so I'm not outraged that one or the other of them was chosen, but rather that we have a system which bases this decision on opinions and voting rather than settling it on the field.
