Great article on Patrick Mahomes' deal

Everyone's quick to say stuff like "the Chiefs won't be competitive for a decade now", but it's actually a great contract for both Mahomes and the team. Great article by Bill Barnwell breaking it down. Essentially, the truly crazy money doesn't guarantee until 2026 or go in Mahomes' pocket until 2027, and by then it won't be so crazy. It's also very likely that both Watson and Prescott make more than Mahomes over the next few years. So while the TOTAL deal is insane, the actual year-to-year breakdown and guarantee structure shows that it was a very win-win contract.
