Can Virginia Tech rebound in 2019?

After much overreaction to beating FSU in Tallahassee on Labor Day Night, they lost to ODU (yes, Old Dominion) and everything since out of Blacksburg has been bad news....although i am still not sure how they beat Virginia. Bad loses, Players leaving or quitting, coaches departing. I thought Justin Fuente was a good hire at the time, but was it? Are they on stable enough ground to suggest that 9 or 10 wins is possible in 2019? (keep in mind they play in the ACC Coastal Division)

You could almost make the case that 4-8 is just as likely as 8-4. There’s a good 8-9 games in there that could realistically go either way.

but it is VT... they will lose to a FCS team and win the Coastal in the same year.
that is a 2-1 OOC record looming.

Bingo, and they will drop to other non-major programs like ODU, ECU, JMU, Temple, Miami-of Ohio, Tennessee. It is just what they do...

Bud Foster is the DC.
Nope.
A big fat nope. Justin is gone after this year unless they fire Bud.
It has been a decade and he still does not know how to address an RPO/modern hybrid offense. It shows. part of the offensive transfer issues with Fuente is part Justin but also offensive players that don't want to be constantly losing because of the defense. They are getting gassed and are often confused. A DC with this much longevity should not look like a promoted special teams interim coach.
They ranked 98th in total D last year. 98th and that was against a weak coastal. Only Louisville, Wake, and UNC ranked behind them.
The only other bowl teams ranked with such a bad D was olkahoma, Ok state, and Purdue.

There's not a lot of talent in Blacksburg these days.

I like Va Tech as I have a graduate degree from there and had season tickets my 4 years in the New River Valley. I don’t follow their recruiting and roster like I do Clemson but they have been trending in the wrong direction since Tyrod Taylor graduated. Long gone are the days they were locking down the top recruits from Hampton Roads and DC metro. The recruiting dropped off the last 4-5 years Beamer was there and hasn’t recovered. Fuente had a nice year his first season in Blacksburg but has followed it up with duds. There recruiting has dropped below UofSC and they have had a lot of their best players transfer. I don’t expect much over the next few years with the roster they have unless Fuente works some magic. FSU is also on a downward trend but has overall better talent on roster. Most pundits will consider ACC to be weak until Va Tech and FSU turn it around and Miami takes the next step.

Is that a Lacrosse schedule? Now that is sad.
Can they not find another P-5 opponent to schedule since their instate rival is part of their ACC 8 game schedule unlike CU,FSU,GT and UL that have built in OOC opponents from the SEC as instate rivals.

At this point, ODU is putting up more of a fight than their traditional rival. ODU is an even .500 compared to .395 for UVA
