@ Syracuse

Jan 17, 2019, 11:17 AM

A friend of mine is from New York and is a Syracuse fan, so we want to go to the game. Right now, tickets are $350 out of GSP. I’m trying to wait and see if they lower. Any suggestions?

Is the road trip worth it? I’m a student, so I’ll have to leave Friday afternoon and be back Monday morning.

Join Tiger Band. If they go, everything for transportation will be paid for. You may have to stand a long bus ride but you will never get to do this again on someone else's dime.

Re: @ Syracuse

Probably only a pep band to this game and I suspect a flight instead of a bus due to distance. Not saying this is fact but that was true for BC this year. Only upperclassmen get to take those trips.

Not knocking Tiger Band as they do a great job but limited budgets lead to a pep band on those long trips that are NOT post season - Post season, the whole bands travels regardless.

Go Tigers!!!

Don't stay in the city of Niagara Falls, it's like cootlumbia, but with more toxic waste.

Yup.

The Canadian side is super-nice.

The American side...not so much. Just look for yourself.

The Good Old U-S-of-A didn't do so hot at that particular border crossing. Kind of embarrassing, actually. We actually seriously need to do something about that particular spot, because otherwise the Canadians might be tempted to build a Wall...to keep us out.

Dont count on a friendly crowd, overall they're a miserable bunch likely because of their locale, cuse is a dump. Been to two there and both times have had multiple people instigating a fight just because I had clemson on, I fear the alcohol in the stadium is what does it, people get out of control. While not everyone is bad, cuse fan base is on par with the red sox, yankees in regard to their classiness. And dont even try engaging in an intelligent football conversation as 9/10 fans only know the name boeheim and melo. That being said, it's still an interesting environment to see and dino is one of the classiest coaches in football, if dabo were to ever leave someday I'd have dino on top of the list, pure class act.

I've only seen one fight in the Dome in the last 5 years and it was between two drunk chicks.

Not sure where you are seeing these fights?

Personally I would either drive to ATL or CLT and grab a nonstop if time is tight (anytime you make a connection it can screw you up). Florida based Clemson fans have a ton on nonstop options on JetBlue, Allegiant and Frontier.

The drive isn't too bad (13-14 hours with minimal stops and doing the speed limit, YMMV). I'd drive through Charlotte and connect up on I-81 in SW VA and enjoy the drive. Much better than heading through the DC area.

The game will sell out, I really suggest buying tickets through the Clemson batch, I expect tickets will fetch a nice premium. We expect ESPN Gameday to be there. Our AD was a top level exec at ESPN and it is no mistake this game was set up early.

The best motel is the Marriott Hotel Syracuse downtown. They offer a shuttle to the Dome. Downtown Syracuse has a ton of great restaurants, bars and brew pubs. One of the largest Malls/Entertainment centers in the US is at Destiny. As noted: spend a few extra days to see Cooperstown, Finger Lakes, 1000 Islands, Niagara Falls, Turning Stone Casino. Their should be live sports betting approved there by the Fall.

Fly into Albany and drive to Cooperstown and check out the Baseball Hall of Fame. Stay at the Inn at Cooperstown, within walking distance of the Hall. On your way to Syracuse go by one of the Finger Lakes. In Syracuse, stay at the Gennessee Hotel or the Sheraton, both within walking distance of the Carrier Dome. I recommend the Gennessee. Then after the game go to Niagara Falls, Canada side and stay at Embassy Suites. You'll have a view of the Falls from your room. Fly home from Buffalo.

Per CheapAir.com in 2017, for flights within the continental U.S., 70 days in advance was the best time to buy your airline ticket on average. This is a bit higher than last year, when the magic number was 54 days in advance.

Isn't Dungey gone? If so, re-watch the SU/ND game where Dungey leaves early in the 1st qtr. Without Dungey, we will beat SU like a rented mule. SU fans will be madder than ever before. Of course, they might leave at halftime this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: @ Syracuse

Jan 19, 2019, 1:05 AM

You could be right...a few of my fellow Cuse fans are getting ahead of themselves.

Tommie DeVito is the heir apparent for Dungey. He has a better arm than Dungey but doesn't have his escapability and linebacker mentality.

Cuse has some weapons but there will be a reason Clemson is favored in the game. A full Dome can be intimidating and obviously Clemson will want to take the crowd away in the 1st half.

If you are on a budget the Quality Inn at Carrier Circle is VG choice. Safe suburban location. Rooms can be had for under a $100 a night. Free Breakfast too.

There is a Motel 6 at Carrier Circle too (very close to the Quality Inn)...not a horrible property but no breakfast. I stayed there a few years ago and found the bed in poor shape. I suggest calling and see if it has been remodeled recently.

The Econolodge on South Bay Road in North Syracuse by the airport is another good value in a safe area.

All of these places are about 10 mins to the Dome.
