Because we needed the money. Back before the home and home started GT considered us a "win" that they could buy with a nice paycheck. Simple as that !!

that GT dropped us in the 70's rather than play home and home. Then a few years later they joined the ACC. Where the got to....play us home and home.

Nice thinking nerds

I have some horrible memories of those years as a child sitting in the rain and hot sun watching GT run up the score on us.

if I am not mistaken, this is when and where the $2 bill tradition was born...to show GT how much money Clemson fans brought to their town.

You are correct. Our first game with GT in Death Valley was in '74 (it seated 53,000 then and it was my first CU game) and we beat them. I think it was 3 years later they announced that the game in Atlanta would be the last game with us home and home, and we said we would not continue the series without home and home. But we took $2 bills with us to Atlanta to pay for everything to let them know the financial impact of our visits.

i asked the same question back in the mid-sixties and was told then that it was strictly a money issue.evidentally we made more by going to atlanta.don't forget that death valley was a lot smaller back then, somewhere in the 35-40,000 range.

"owned" Frank Howard. Howard never denied going down there for the "money."

Imagine how much bigger our series lead over the coots would be

If we hadn't played all those consecutive years in columbia

Back in the day, before the internet and world of warcraft, they used to have fans that would show up to football games.
