Another aspect often overlooked in the downfield passing

attack last year is how one or some of the receivers stopped giving it their all on some routes. You could see them got "bummed out" over being wide open and having the throw off target. I'm not a fan of calling our players out or anything like that, but anyone who watched the games will know of what I speak. You could see that there were times they just lost confidence in the deep game and didn't give it 110%. Not saying that is right of them to do, but it is part of human nature.

This year, it is imperative that we have the deep threat potential and that we can hit it when the receiver is open. They will get open, and we must capitalize when they do. With the Defense we should field, if the Offense is capable of connecting on the deep ball to make opposing teams play us straight, or at best, guess right a lot, then the running game will break open and the Tigers will become near unstoppable.

Go back and watch the games. How many passes were flat out dropped by the receivers that would have been long completions? The QB takes a hit on those as well. Deshaun didn't have that issue, Williams, Leggett, and Hunter just didn't drop those balls from Deshaun so his numbers were much higher. Not to say that Kelly is as good as Deshaun but it will make a QB more apt to keep the ball and try to make plays with his feet when he's having balls dropped on a regular basis.

There were some drops. No one can argue that. I think it’s foolish to say Kelly was adequate at throwing a deep ball. Even many of the completions were underthrown. Hopefully he can grow in that department.
