VEGAS LINE MOVEMENT

Jan 6, 2017, 6:49 PM

The line is now Bama -7 meaning that the majority are betting on Clemson to cover the -6.5 spread. I've always been of the opinion that Vegas always wins, so this movement is not good for us...

Didnt Vegas have Hillary winning?

I think you meant the majority are betting on Bama

Jan 6, 2017, 6:53 PM

to cover the spread.

This isn't a big deal at all though. The general public does most of the early betting and they are the ones that lose their money to Vegas. Watch where the money goes Monday before the game. The sharps hammered us pretty hard prior to the kickoff against OSU and they won big. If the late money goes on Clemson again this week it means we have a lot of professional bettors and really smart guys on our side.

This is absolutely correct. People who gamble for a living want to wait to the last possible moment to look for suspensions and injuries, etc. If you really want to know what the professionals think, wait until right before the game. I bet the line moves in our favor late. Just like against Ohio State

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What are you talking about?

Jan 6, 2017, 6:55 PM

The line opened at -7 and now it's either -6, -6.5 or -7 in all major books.

No, it means the betting has been on Bama. If people were

betting more on Clemson, the line would move to a smaller spread for Alabama bets to cover and the line would go down.

Vegas ain't playing the game,and I have never seen a victory or a loss of - 6.5
or +6.5.
The game is zero-zero,and when the clock strikes 0:00 Monday night Clemson will have it's title
and damm be Las Vegas.

Re: VEGAS LINE MOVEMENT

Jan 6, 2017, 9:18 PM

Correction by @TigersAndCubs. The $ is going towards Alabama and continuing to do so. The same thing did happen before the OSU game. Based on the concept that Vegas always wins, this would have Clemson covering the spread.

I also agree that the late bets will go to Clemson in big numbers because most smart gamblers would bet on Clemson to win SU.

The rest of you are completely right, I'm an idiot coot who has never bet on anything! Happy self depression day for you idiots!

How is it that you think all the money is going on Bama? Every source I can find shows 60-65% of money has been on Clemson. I can provide multiple sources for this if you would like. Can you provide just ONE source that validates what you claim?

FWIW... "Vegas" is not always right, neither are the "big bettors" or "sharps".

Vegas had it all figured out for the Ohio state game too. You got to be kidding me .... vegas has nothing, I repeat nothing, to do with the outcome of the game. It has everything to do with the outcome of people who. Goose to bet on it.

Vegas wins by having their book balanced. They make their money on the juice. Their bottom line is not in the least bit affected by who wins or loses.

my understanding is the sharps haven't been heard from yet

Jan 7, 2017, 10:33 AM

There was a flurry of early betting on Clemson but that's since been countered by the usual SEC and Alabama homers who think Alabama is invincible...keep in mind Clemson remains a fairly unknown quantity in some circles and we've got a very small fan base - meaning, less homers.

The casinos still absolutely lost their shirts against OSU because the sharps - professional, big-money bettors - swarmed in late and absolutely hammered the -3.5 line that OSU had over Clemson...by gametime, Clemson was actually favored by 1. Vegas casinos called it a "bloodbath" and it was one of their worst days in years.

I've heard several casinos are not planning to get blindsided again and will actually close betting if the line shifts by more than 2 this time around...but the concern is definitely that the sharps will come swarming in again on Clemson in the late hours just as they did against OSU. The matchup is similar and Alabama is if anything even more vulnerable to Clemson's passing attack.

The bottom line is that the pros saw the OSU train wreck coming...and there's a whole lot of fear in casino circles that there's a similar one coming for Alabama in the Title game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if they plan on betting big on Clemson why would

Jan 7, 2017, 10:52 AM

they wait till the line drops before betting? It seems to me that they would rather have 7 points than 3 or 4 points

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: if they plan on betting big on Clemson why would

Jan 7, 2017, 11:08 AM

Again, because of the number of SEC and Alabama homers can usually be counted on to drive the line UP. Clemson's a very small fan base and there is no such thing as an "ACC Homer" so one can expect the homer money to drive the line up in Bama's favor.

Again, the line doesn't mean who Vegas actually thinks will win the game. The line is about getting equivalent amounts of money on both sides of the bet...and then Vegas takes its 10% and says Thank You Sports Fans. It doesn't care who wins...usually.

The problem with Clemson is that we were 3.5-point underdogs...who then administered a 31-point blowout to OSU, and the sharps came in at the last second and obliterated that line. The professional bettors clearly saw the mismatch...and Vegas took a bath because the sharks all came swarming in at the last second and they didn't have time to get equivalent amounts of money on both sides of the bet.

They're very leery it's about to happen again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So if I'm Vegas and I think the sharks are going to bet

Jan 7, 2017, 11:51 AM

on Clemson, I move the like to 5 now to get more of the homer money bet on Alabama, that way it is evened out when the sharks dump money on Clemson.

Right now the majority of the bets are going towards Clemson but not enough to move the line.

Re: So if I'm Vegas and I think the sharks are going to bet

Actually Neil, Quozell is dead on. Early money was strongly Clemson but over the past two days more money is moving to Bama. I have been following betting percentages closely since the OSU game ended.
