Tigers That Made a Play: Kelvin Grant vs Wake Forest 2004

Jun 24, 2016, 11:01 AM

Wake Forest vs 15 Clemson. September 4, 2004

The 15th ranked Tigers blew a 16 point First Half lead and ultimately trailed by 8 late in the 4th QTR. With 1:48 left in the game, Yusef Kelly scored on a 1 Yard TD leap to pull Clemson to within 2. Needing a 2 point conversion to avoid a do-or-die onside kick, Charlie Whitehurst threw a perfect lob pass to Kelvin Grant in the corner of the East Endzone, who made a fantastic leaping grab over the Wake CB, and the Tigers tied the game at 30-30 to force overtime. The 2 teams exchanged Field Goals in the 1st OT before Kyle Browning took a Whitehurst screen pass 11 yards for the game winning score. Final: Clemson 37 Wake 30 2OT

Folks like Gaines is why. I remember that day like it was yesterday with the Rev declaring "GeeHawd" on the Deacons. Good times. RIP Gaines

I do. I remember taking for granted beating Va and then the game they won. Clemson has truly come a long way since I started attending games. We still went to the games and tailgated just as hard but back then those wake, NC state etc were nerve racking games
