I just did, but opted for the free credit monitoring

It told me that I was impacted by it. OK. I've had undue charges to my credit card twice in the last year, but it didn't cost me anything (BOA immediately cancelled card and sent me a new one). I couldn't honestly say I had lost any time or money, just a little inconvenience.
I figured the credit monitoring was at least as much as the $125, so I went with that.

I opted for both since I had considerable time involved in filing police report and getting new credit card.

I can only imagine how much the lawyers are making if
Jul 25, 2019, 12:21 PM

they're settling for $125 for 147 million people. Usually a class action has a few million people tops. You get a settlement check for $12.32 and some lawyer gets $30 million.
Here's what I don't get. The settlement was for $700 million for 147 million "victims". That comes out to $4.76 per person, excluding the lawyers' take. If they are giving out $125 per victim in the settlement, that means only 5.6 million people get paid. What happens to the other 141 million people?
Just saying...don't expect your $125.

attorneys getting $77.5M plus expenses
Jul 25, 2019, 12:32 PM
|
|
"Class Counsel have undertaken this case on a contingency-fee basis, meaning they have paid for all of the expenses in the case and have not been paid any money in relation to their work on this case. Accordingly, Class Counsel will ask the Court to award them attorneys’ fees of up to $77,500,000 and reimbursement for costs and expenses up to $3,000,000 to be paid from the Consumer Restitution Fund."

So that leaves $620 million to pay 147 million people
Jul 25, 2019, 12:45 PM

$125? Or free credit monitoring?
I have this sneaking feeling that you'll see almost everyone without direct evidence of an impact getting credit monitoring and then the others who were impacted getting restoration services and reimbursed. Which is why I can't figure out the $125 cash option. With automation they can probably monitor the credit of 147 million people for under $620 million easily. But there's not enough for $125 for everyone.
