Deuteronomy 8:3 “So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”
Have you experienced “manna” moments in your life? If we are honest with ourselves we will remember times when we felt as though we were surrounded by desert – sand as far as the eye can see. Limited in life and parched by how dry our life has become. Naturally, in times like these, we look to the past and remember better times that we once had. A time when we were happy and satisfied, and we would give anything to get those things back in our life. Especially when we find ourselves “just getting by” in life and that just doesn’t cut it anymore.
Isn’t it amazing how we, yes, even us Christian folk, forget that when God asks us to walk with Him that the path we walk will at times include a “desert”. It will include trial and tribulation but we seem to stand strong and demand that our adversary get behind us. But when the desert overtakes us, and the only thing God provides is manna, what then? Do we complain against God as strongly as when we stand against the serpent of old? Do we forget to be thankful that our daily needs are met because we feel we deserve more – we want more?
Manna is God’s provision and it satisfies the needs we have in life. Manna is never meant to meet our desires. And, if our hearts desire is to follow after God, forsaking all that we left behind, we will find that manna is satisfying to us. We usually “see” this when we think back over our life and recognize how good God really was to us during those times. But, my challenge to you today is this, recognize it now! Even if your spirit feels dry and parched, remember that God is with you and He is providing for your needs – because He loves you. Remember, too, to thank Him for all that He provides, because you really do know how to be thankful whether you have much or little – because you love God too. Remembering our love for God will then transport our desert into an oasis. How refreshing life becomes, again, when that love is revived!
